The citizen!! of patriotic old Coweta will he interested in the fact that plans i,re being made by Mr. Borghum, a New York sculptor, under commission from the Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial Association, composed of members from those States which drew their swords in defense of the South, for a monument, to be carved out of the solid granite on top of Smne Moun tain, the greatest monolith of the world - sometimes called the eighth wonder of the world. The sculptor was the guest Sunday of Mr. Sam Vena- ble at Stone Mountain, who met the af ternoon before with members of the U. L). C. Hnd of the Stone Mountain Me morial Association in Mr. Hooper Al exander’s law office with attorneys for the" nUrgpse of drawing up deeds where by Mr. Venable’s gift of ih- use of Stone Mountain for the monument wouhl be valid for all time. Many monuments of marble and bronze have been erected to heroes of the Ixist Cause, but nothing has equaled in sublimity this conception of a location overlooking the fields of some of the hardest fought battles of the Civil War. There has perhaps never been an army of the same size with the same force and power, or commanded by men of greater genius than Lee and Jackson. On the battlefield of Waterloo the victorious English erected a statue of a British lion looking defiantly toward France: but the deeds of the Southern Confederacy, when typified in solid granite, will he something much more beautiful and impressive, commemora ting as it will some of the greatest deeds of valor in ancient or modern times. Georgia is fortunate in furnish ing the site for so worthy a memorial, for very few States have had a more brilliant career. When his plans are perfected the ar tist will build a plaster cast of Stone Mountain showing the location of the memorial and take it with him to the U. D C. convention in San Francisco. (In some of the sunny slopes leading up to the monument should be engraved in relief Father Ryan’s "Conquered Ban- | ner” or "Sword of Lee." N L. C. Chronic Constipation. , About two years ago when I began | using Chamberlain's Tablets 1 had been j suffering for some time with stomach trouble and chronic constipation. My I condition improved rapidly through the use of these tablets. Since taking four or live bottles of them my health has been fine," writes Mrs. John Newton, Irving. N. V. Obtainable everywhere. Horrible Death Valley. Only one man ever spent more than a day in Death Valley and lived to tell the tule. That man is H. W . Manlon, of Rhyolite, Cal. For more than a week he was lost in the heart of the valley, tramping over Hi miles of sand so hot ttat it burned through his heavy boots. His tongue was swollen to such a size that bis mouth could no longer contain it, and his eyelids were cracked open. Finally he staggered up to Cub Lee’s Furnace Creek ranch more dead than alive. At first he could not drink. The touch of water was as fire to bis parched lips and tongue. Ranchmen had to force the water into his mouth through a straw. Why cannot human beings live in Death Valley? According to rrcordsof the California Mining Bureau men have gone into the valley with plenty of water, but have died of thirst —the arid air sapping the moisture from their bodies faster than they could supply it. In summer the air is kiln-arid until it contains but one per cent, of humidity, and well-shaded barometers soar to 125 degrees Fahren heit. Two Children Had Croup. The two children of J. W. Nix, mer chant, Cleveland. Ga , had croup last winter. One was a boy of fi, the other a girl of S years. Mr. f/ix writes: "Both got so choked up they could hardly breathe and couldn’t talk. I gave them Folev’s Honey and Tar and nothing else and it entirely cured them.” This re liable medicine should be in every home, for it gives immediate relief from colds, coughs and croup, heals raw. inflamed throats and loosens phlegm. J. F. Lee Drug Co. A lady received the following reply from a neighbor in answer to a ques tion as to why she allowed her children and her husband to litter up every room in the house. The sentiment will find lodgement in the heart of every home-loving mother in the land: "The marksof little muddy feet upon the floor can be more easily removed than the stains where the little feet go into the highways of sin. The prints of the little fingers upon the window-panes cannot shut out the sun shine half so much as the shadow that darkens the mother's heart over the one who will be but a name in the com ing years. And if my John finds home a refuge from care, and his greatest happiness within its four walls, he can put his boots in the rooking chair and hang his hat on door any day in the week. And if I can stand it, and he en joys it, I cannot see that it is any body's business." Birds Natural Enemies of, the Boll WeeviL Atlanta, Ga., Oct. 1. —Henry Rice, of South Carolina, one of the leading orni thologists of America, who was in At lanta recently, declares birds are the only natural enemies of the Mexican boll weevil that is slowly hut surely cutting down the j ield of the South's great staple, and that only the war of oirds on the weevil can reduce them in any considerable number. Mr. Rice has prepared, with State Entomologist Lee Worsham, of Georgia, the data for a book on the vital importance of pro tecting turds. He also conferred while in Atlanta with Stale Game Warden Arnow on the subject of the bird laws of Georgia. HAVE YOU BEEN SICK?
