Rev. E. C. Smith laid on the editor’s
table the other day a line specimen of
sweet potato of the “Triumph” variety
that weighed 3* lbs. which proves

raiser as well as a good preacher. He

Mr. C. M. Smith and family, who
have been making their home in Jack
sonville. Fla., for several years past,
returned to Newnan a few days ago
and will again become residents of our

Dr. Paul Peniston, who has hern con
fined at home by illness for the past
three or four weeks, was reported as
somewhat better yesterday. Dr. Pen-
iston is one of our most popular phy
sicians, anti his many friends and for
mer patients wish for him a speedy re
covery.
Glenn Camp, the 18-year-old son of
Mr. anti Mrs. Luther Camp, of Senoia,
underwent an operation for appendici
tis at the Newnan Sanatnrium Tuesday
night. The operation, which was per
formed by Dr. W. A. Turner, was en
tirely successful, and the young man is
expected to make a rapid recovery.
Mrs. Eula McGuire Carpenter, who
was a schoolmate here of Mrs. Wood-
row Wilson, died yesterday at her home
in Newnnn. She is well remembered
in Rome, where her girlhood was spent,
anti the news of her death will be re
ceived with sincere regret by many

Mr. and Mrs. 11. H. North went to
Atlanta yesterday to be present at the
marriage of their niece. Miss Jessie
McKee, and Mr. Winslip Nunnally, both
of that city. The ceremony took place
last evening at the North Avenue
Presbyterian church and was a brilliant
affair. Little Miss Emma North of

Quite a number of Newnan people
have been in Greenville this week at
tending the annual meeting of the
Western Baptist Association. There
are fifty-two active churches within the
limits of the association, and all except
two were represented. Returning dele
gates speak in appreciative terms of
the generous hospitality of the good
people of Greenville, and the splendid
manner in which the visitors were en
tertained.
