LOCALS DROUGHT FORWARD
A rural mail route inspector was in
our town a few days since looking over
the routes and studying the advisability
of putting on an automobile service. It is ...
reported that he favors one automobile I Considering his line
route and two long buggy routes from J -i- i-
Senoia to take the place of our present
very satisfactory service, and also of
one of the routes from Turin. No
official newB has come as to what will
be done, but the roads in this section
are almost impassable for cars for a
long time during the winter, and we do
not see how the new plan could possibly
prove satisfactory. Our ruTal friends
now have a fine service, and any change
will bring a vigorous protest from them.
It is to be hoped the inspector will de
cide to make no change.- Senoia En
terprise-Gazette.
Wednesday next. Mr. T. M. Goodrum',
secretary of the Chamber of Com
merce, urges all who may wish to at
tend the dinner to hand their subscrip
tions to Mr. Arnall as early as practi
cable. Mr. R. D. Cole, president of the
Chamber of Commerce, will preside as
toastmaster, and only local speakers
will he on the programme.
A Fine Entertainment.
The entertainment at the County
Club on Friday evening last was n
great success, both in point of attend
ance and in the number and churaetor
of the attractions presented. The
leading feature was a monologue, "The
Bachelor’s Reverie," by Mr. Stanford
Arnold, assisted by the following young
ladies, viz: Miss Alice McBride as
the "School Girl;” Miss Oma Hudson
as the "Athletic Girl;” Miss Virginia
Glover as the "Riding Girl;” Miss
Willie Herring as the “Actress;” Miss
Marian Brymit as the “College Girl;’
Miss Florence Dent as the "Winter
Girl;” Miss Sallie Kate I’eniston as th
"Summer Girl;" Miss Bessie Dent bb
the "Debutante;” and Miss Harriet
Farmer as the "Bride." These pretty
girls constituted a galaxy of “moving
pictures” that caused more than one
old bachelor in the foreground to catch
his breath as they passed in panoramic
order before the footlights.
Miss Georgia Atkinson added new
laurels to her reputation as Newnan’s
talented young elocutionist with a rec
itation that both thrilled and delighted
the large audience.
The musical numbers on the pro
gramme included a vocal solo by Mrs.
Searles, piano solos by Misses Ruth
Thompson, Eleanor Barrett and Fannie
Hill Herring, and a duel by Mrs. Wro.
Askew, (violin,) and Mrs. Byron Ful-
.ler, (violinecllo.)
The receipts were between $35 and
$10, which will be added to the fund
being raised to make certain repairs
and improvements on the club building.
Attractions at The Strand.
The Strand announces for next week
three attractions that are fully up to
the high standard which this theatre
has set for its feature pictures. Each
one is a special feature, and distinct
from The Strand’s regular programme.
All who saw Theda Bara in "The
Clemenceau Case” will be pleased to
know that this great motion picture ac
tress will appear at The Strand in the
(i-part Fox feature, “A Fool There
Was." The picture is adapted from
Kipling’s famous poem of the same
name. As the "Vampire” Miss Bara
is withi ut an equal, and if is said by
critics that her role of “Vampire” in
“A Fool There Was” is her best work.
Wednesday The Strand will show
that greatest of fun-makers, Charlie
Chaplin, in a 2-part Essanay comedy,
“Shanghaied." Charlie is shanghaied
and carried aboard a smuggler’s ship.
Consider the situation, and you can
imagine the funny things that happen.
By the way, all the new Chaplin pic
tures are shown at The Strand as soon
as released.
Friday the famous dramatic star,
Emmett Corrigan, will appear in the
great 5 part Metro human interest
drama, "Greater Love Hath No Man.”
Mr. Corrigan is well-known for his
work on the legitimate stage, being
one of America’s most noted actors.
work in former
dramatic roles it is easy to forecast
that the patrons of The Strand will be
delighted with his part in this photo
play.
Beginning next week The StrHnd will
make every Wednesday “comedy day”
—a day set apart especially for the
children, but with a programme thut
will please grown-ups as well.
