Summers, our local cotton statistician, estimates Newnan’s total receipts for the present season at less than 14,000 bales, a falling off of 10,- 000 bales as compared with last season. Teachers’ Examination.— An emer gency examination of teachers will he held in my office on Saturday, Nov. 20, beginning at 8 a. m. J. E. Pendorgrast, County Superintendent of Schools. According to figures furnished by Mr. J. IB Simms, Government agent for the collection of ginning statistics in this county, 19,189 bales of cotton had been g'nned in Coweta up to Nov. 1, as against 25,406 for the same period last year. Dent, of Oakley, Md., on his annual visit to Georgia, and spent several days with Newnan friends the past week. He keeps in close touch with his old home through the medium of The Herald, which he always wel comes as a weekly visitor in his Mary land home. We are gratified to note that Mr. R J. Stewart’s condition has greatly im proved during the past week, and that his symptoms are still favorable. Tuesday one of his neighbors, Mr. Ralph McKoy, sent us a couple of yams that are equally entitle d to hon orable mention, one weighing 54 lbs. and the other 34 lbs. Although he embezzled only $16, Samuel B. Cook, the former postmas ter at Clem, Ga., was given a sentence of two years in the Federal peniten tiary by Judge Newman in the District Federal Court in Atlanta. Judge New man said there waB no hing olse for him to do, although he intimated surprise that Cook, with his lack of ability, ever managed to land the job of postmaster Cook took a check for $6, and $10 in money. He said he didn’t know any thing about it. The Junior Reading Circle met with Miss Buta Powers Wednesday after noon, when the following programme was carried out— Assyrian and Persian Art—Miss Grace Davis. Art of Ancient Rome— Miss Willie Herring. Grecian Art—Mias Fannie Hill Her ring. Grecian Sculpture— Miss Nannie Bouise Hill. The next meeting will he with Miss Augusta Mann. Mr. Albert Brooks, who has been con nected with Dozier's Pharmacy for the past two years, will leave this month for Newnan to accept a position with the J. F. Bee Drug Co. Mr. Brohks came to RaGrange from Newnan, and his work there will not be entirely new to him, since he was employed 4>y the same firm three years ago. He states that he likes RaGrange and all the peo ple here, hut we will have to agree with him that "there is no place like home.” During his stay here Mr. Brooks has made many friends, who regret to see him leave, but their best wishes follow him, wherever he may go.— RaGrange Reporter. ■ ♦ Free Transportation for Fair Ex hilnts. — With a view to promoting in terest in agriculture in Georgia, free transportation is hereby authorized on exhibits (weight not to exceed 25 lbs.) from points in the State reached by the Southern Express Co. when consigned to the secretary of the Southeastern Fair Association, Atlanta — provided such shipments are transported wholly with in the State and are intended solely for exhibition purposes. Shipments may be returned free to tho owner at initial point of shipment at close of fair, if the certificate accompanying the out ward shipment is attached.
