It is rather early to discuss probable
candidates for the Legislature, and up
to this time there have been no an
nouncements. It is known, however,
that Hon. Garland Jones will be a can
didate for re-election to the House;
and that he will be overwhelmingly in
dorsed goes without saying. He is one of
the ablest and most useful Representa
tives that Coweta has ever sent, to the
Legislature, and no member of that body
during his term of service has been
moreinfluential or- helpful in shaping
legislation. It is understood that he
will be a candidate 1 fob the Speaker

that he will be chosen for that much-
coveted honor—probably without oppo

Hon. Jos. T. Kirby, who has already
announced that he will not be a candidate
to succeed himself as a member of the
House, is being urged from all parts of
the county to offer for the Senate, and
his many friendB will be pleased to know
that he may do so. Mr. Kirby is serv
ing his second term as a member of
the House, and has made a fine record.
He is moreover one of Coweta’s most
popular citizens, with a following that
would practically assure his election if
he should decide to make the race for a
seat in the upper branch of the General
Assembly.
According to an opinion announced a
few days ago by the Attorney-General
prescribing the qualifications of candi

required; (1) Three years’ experience
in teaching, one year of which shall
have been in Georgia, together with the
possession of a first-grade license; (2)

The luncheon given Monday, at whieh
about fifty of Newnan’s representative
citizens and business men were gnests
of President C. J, Haden and Secretary
E. Y. Clark, of tbe Georgia Chamber
of Commerce, was a most interesting
occasion. Addresses were made by
these gentlemen explaining the object
of the campaign inaugurated by the
Chamber of Commerce to advertise
Georgia, and asking the co-operation of
our citizens in forwarding the move
ment. A substantial sum was sub
scribed by those present, and additional
subscriptions were secured later after
a canvass of the town.
Congress has re-enacted the emer
gency revenue low, under the provisions
of which all dealers in tobacco whose
sales are in excess of $200 per annum,
brokers, proprietors of pool tables,
theatres, picture shows, etc., are re-
? uired during the month of January,
916, to secure a license to carry on
their respective buBineBseB for the
neriod from Jan. 1, 1916, to June $0,
.910; and unless the application for li
cense is made during the month of Jan
uary 50 per cent, additional attaches to
the tax as a penalty for failure to
secure the license within the time re

provisions of this law who have not se

two days remain in which to file appli

Attractions at The Strand.
The prograhe at The Strand for the
coming week promises several treats to
lovers of good photoplays.
Monday Theda Bara and Wm. Shay
will be featured in “Two Orphans,” a
5 part Fox feature. MiBs Bara is less
in need of an introduction than any ac
tress appearing in motion pictures to
day, being a great favorite with the
Newnan people. Her name on the
posters of any theatre is enough to
pack the house.
Wednesday, Edna Mayo and Henry
Walthall will appear in “The Mislead
ing Lady.” ThiB couple made a big
hit in “The Woman Hater,” so it is
easy to prophecy that “The Misleading
Lady” will please as much as "The
Woman Hater.” Mr. Walthall is a na
tion-wide favorite. He made his great
est hit as “The-Little Colonel,” in “The
Birth of a Nation.” Miss Mayo was
the dainty little lead in “The Blindness
of Virtue,” and “The Outer Edge.”
Thursday The Strand will begin fea- 1
turing Helen Holmes, the daredevil girl
of the movies, in a 2-reel picture, “The
Girl and The Game.” A 2-reel install
ment of this picture will be shown every
Thursday. This is a series of pictures,
not a serial, as each Installment ia a
complete story. “The Girl and the
Game” is the biggest thing ever at
tempted in the line of railroad pictures,
as well as being the most thrilling and
interesting series ever filmed.
Friday, Emily, Stevens will appear in
“The Soul ofa Woman,” a Metro fea
ture in five parts. Miss Stevens is a
beautiful and popular favorite of the
legitimate stage and is only in pictures
for a short time.
The Strand is now showing every
week the best pictures from four of the
best companies. Special music, con
sisting of violin, piano, drums, bells
and xylophone, on Mondays, Wednes
days and Fridays.
Constipation and Indigestion.
“I have used Chamberlain’s Tablets
and must say they are the best I have

digestion and they did her good,”

Dr. Bradley Davis went to New
York last week, and within a few
hours after his arrival secured a posi
tion on the hospital staff of the Post
graduate College of Medicine, of that
city. Dr. Davis will specialize on chil
drens’ diseases, and at his request was
assigned to that ward, where tbe expe
