The term Teuton is of Latin origin.
In ineleiit tinus the part of Europe-no v
embraced in German” wu>
nia, and one of the- principal tribes
of the country was called by the civil
ized Romans Teutons, just as we speak
of vhe Apache Indians. Being a fierce
and warlike people, they gave the Ro
mans a great deal of trouble, and as they
were the dominant tribe of that region
the name Teutons gradually came to be
applied to all the people occupying what
was called Germania. It has survived
in the form of Teutons.
