Shower For Miss Gibson.
An elaborate social affair of Wednes
day afternoon was the kitchen shower
at which Mrs. Henry Israel was hostess
in honor of Miss Louise Gibson, a popu
lar bride-elect. Bridge was enjoyed for
some time after which an elaborate menu
was served. Miss Josephine Hancock
made highest score, and was presented
with a prize. The guests included Misses
Josephine Hancock, Annie Drake, John
nie, Mildred, and Martha Caldwell, Buth
Carpenter, Frances Arnold, Janie Lee
and Gabriel Johnson, Sara Farmer, Sara
Davis, Weston Sappe, Mary Freeman,

Another event in the scries of parties
in honor of MiBs Louise Gibson, a charm
ing bride-elect of Dec. 28, was tho lovely
bridgo pnrty given Saturday afternoon
by Mrs, Bufus Askew and MiRs Frances
Arnold at tho homo of tho latter on
Greenville street. The guests of honor
was presented with a beautiful cut glass
bottle of perfume. Among thoso invited

Mrs. T. P. Zollurs entertained The
Tuesday Afternoon Bridgo Club this
week in compliment to Miss Louise Gib
son, whose marriage to Mr. William Ar
nold will bo nn interesting social event
of Deo. 28. Ench ono of the club mem
bers brought a kitchen towel and a recipe
for the bride-elect’s cook book. Mrs.
N. E. Powel won tho prize, a pair of
silk hose. Besides the club members
were Misses Janie Leo Johnson, Sara
Davis, Weston Sappe, Annie Drako, Fran
ces Arnold and Mrs. BufuB Askew.
Miss Janie Lee Johnson will ontortain
this nfternoon nt bridge in honor of Miss
Louise Gibson. Sixteen guests nre in
vited. On Wednesday, Dec. 22, Miss
Weston Sappe will give a bridge-tea in
honor of this charming young bride-
elect.

R. W. JACKSON KILLED IN MOON
SHINE RAID.
Mr. B. W. Jackson, for many years n
resident of Nownnn, and ono of tho most
aotlvo mombors of tho Federal Prohi
bition Agonts’ force, was fatally injured
Thursday morning in a raid near But
ler, Ga., dying before ho could bo taken
to town.
Mr, Jackson, accompanied by Capt. E.
G. English and S. J. Causey, went out
to raid n still about throe mllos from
Butlor Thursday morning. Thoy found
tho still in operation, and capturod a
white man and two nogroos, and return
ed to their enr to bring tho prisoners to
Butlor. While nt tho car, roports state
that two men hamod Garrett ongagod, in
an altercation with the officers, and in
tho melon ono of tho Garrotte shot Mr.
Jackson through tho lungs, ho, In turn,
being killed by CauBoy. Tho other Gar
rett was mortally wounded, nnd is not
expected to llvo. Arrangomonte linvo
been made to bring tho body of Mr.
Jackson to NeWnnn Friday morning.
Mr. Jackson was well and favorably
known throughout this section, for years
acting ns deputy Blioriff of Coivota
county, and later became a U. S. Deputy
Marshal. When tho Prohibition Agents
wore organized, Mr. Jackson wus ap
pointed us a Prohibition Enforcement
officer, and has boon ono of tho most
active and offic.iont mombors of that or
ganization. Ho is survived by a wife
•lid five children.
