NO DELAY IN STATE TAXES.
Feeling that tho circumstances sur
rounding many of our tax payers jus
tified an extension of the time in which
State and County, tnxes could bo paid,
County Tax Collector, C. J. Owens, re
cently addressed a letter to Hon. Win.
A. Wright, Comptroller-General, asking
if he, hs Comptrollor-Genernl, could nd-
viso if there wns any method whereby
a delay might bo accorded distressed tax
payers. The voteran comptroller replied
promptly, stating that while ho thor
oughly understood the situation, ho knew
of no legal means whereby the date of
tho payment of taxes duo could be ex
tended and instructed tho tax collec
tor to procedo strictly in accordance
with tho Inw, in all cases where taxes
had not been pnid by December 120th,

tention of all our citizens,
COWETA JAIL FILLING UP WITH
FEDERAL PRISONERS.
U. 8. Deputy Marshal C. G. Harbor
brought a batch of Federal prisoners
from Columbus Saturday morning and
lodged thorn in tho county jail, where
thny will bo confined until they hnvo
served tho various terms of imprisonment
ordered by .Judgo Bnrnuel H. Sibley fol
lowing their conviction in the U. S. Dis
trict Court last week for violations of
tho National Prohibition Act. Tho
names of the prisoners and the sentences
imposed in tho several cases are as fol
lows—
Chas. Jennings, Troup county; two
month* and $100.
l J ink Ha ugh, Troup county; four
months and $100.
Willio H. BowIob, Troup county; two
months or $100.
.Tim Williams, Troup county; three
months and $100.
Henry Towns, Troup county; three
months and $100.
.Too Towns, Troup county; throe
months and $100.
Laymond Ector, Troup county; two
montliH or $100.
Floyd Hooks, Harris county; $150 or
imprisonment until discharged by law.
J. M. Harpor, Hoard county; three
months and $100.
S. W. Turner, Troup county; two
months and $100.
It may bo noted in passing that tho
Coweta jail has boon designated for the
incarceration of Federal prisoners bo-
cause of its security and excellent sani
tary condition, Deputy Marshal Harbor
says.
