GET DRINK FROM FLOWERS
Natives of India Distill Valuable Spirit
From Mowra Tree—Seeds Also
Yield Oil.
The (lowers of the "tuowrn" tree,
nntlve to India, are highly valued Tor
food. They are rich In sugar, and
an Intoxicating drink Is distilled from
them. A s.vrup prepared from them ts
boiled down, yielding a sugar equal In
quality to date sugar.
In the centrnl provinces of India
mowrif dowers are regularly used as
on article of food by at-least 1,000,000
people, each person consuming about
eighty pounds per nnumu. Through
out that country they are'looked upon
ns a valuable reserve In famine years.
Their doshy. Juicy, globe-shaped corol
las are collected when they have fall
en, and are spread out to dry on- mots
it) the sun. A single tree will yield
200 to 300 pounds of dowers In a
year. They are eaten either fresh or
dried, and cooked In many different
ways, with rice, shredded coconut or
Dour. .
The bull; of the crop of flowers,
however, is used for the preparation
of “doru," or mowra spirit. They are
fermented, sometimes with molasses
added, and the liquor Is then distilled
In crude apparatus. With good dis
tilling apparatus, 100 pounds of the
Dowers will yield Dve and one-half gal
lons of proof. spirit.
It Is estimated that In the Hydera
bad state alone there are enough
mowra trees to produce 700,000 gal
lons of proof spirit per . annum. The
seeds yield nn oil which Is largely
utilized In the manufacture of soap,
candles and Imitation butter.

Tlntagel, an the North Coast of Corn
wall, Figures in Tennyson's
Famous Poem.
Everyone who has read the legends
of King Arthur, or who has conned
T-eanyson’s “Idylls of the King," wish
es to see Tlntagel, that place In the
north coast of Cornwall so deeply Im
plicated in the Arthurian legend. -The
regencl'-of Tlntagel Is that Arthur cnm'e
ashorfe from the sea In storm and
Dame, a story excellently well suited
to the Cornish love of marvels.
The place generally known to tour
ists In Cornwall ns Tlntagel Is In fact
the village of Trevenn, and Tlntagel
Itself Is the ruined Castle and head
land, solitary, beyond It and beyond
the wind-swept church wtnye the gray-
green llcliens grow long on the gran
ite..
The headland of Tlntagel, dark and
craggy and qlinost wholly sepa*ated
from the'mainland, Is said to take Its
name from "Dun-dagel,” the “safe for
tress;" famous from earliest times as
a place for retreat and defense. On
all such rock fastnesses the primitive
peoples who Inhabited their coast-line
created what are known ns "cllff-cas-
ties.” You see this remarkable place
best from -Its eastern side, and from
the sands below the slaty cli'ffs. From
this point of view the great gloomy
cavpri) eaten-out by the sen. In the
headland, some day completely'to sur
round It. can be clearly seen.—Chris

Speaking and Listening.
-, A great deal has been written on the
art of speaking; but a treatise on the
art of listening would be more valu
able. There are plenty of good talkers
In society, but good hearers are rare.
Carlyle’s ' discourses, preached In so
many volumes, with sad earnestness,
on the text “Silence Is Golden,” have
borne thus far but little fruit. A
Frenchman once said of a gentleman
In company, In whom he could detect
no other quality worthy of a compli
ment, that he had "a great (alent for
silence.” This apparent equivoque was
a real compliment, for of all gifts ope
of the very rarest Is that self-control
which enables one to hgjd his tongue.
Few persons have reOected how diffi
cult It Is-to command that attention
and concentration’ . . . which con
stitute a good listener. It requires not
only high moral but also rare Intellec
tual qualities. It Is noL PS one Is apt
to suppose, a. merely, passive state.—
William Mathews.

RESOLUTIONS BY MACEDONIA
BAPTIST CHURCH.
On Oct. 11, 1920, the spirit of Bro.
L. B. Gurley took its flight and ascend
cd to tho God who gave it. In' early,
llfo.ho made his confession'to Christ and
was baptized into tho fellowship of tho
church at Macedonia. In iS85 ho was
mnrriqd to .Miss Sarah Jana Oarmictil,
who survives him.
Bro. Gurley was a sWeot singer, and
loved by all who know him. How sadly
did wo miss .him at our last singipg at
tho court-liouso in Newiran, his death'
occurring on Monday before we niot on
Sunday. He was elected vice-president
of the UAited Sacred I(arp Convention
-in Atlanta, which showed the esteem in
which ho was held by that body. He is

And the pure in heart abide—
Whore there is no pain or Borrpw

Therefore, be it resolved—
1. That we bow in bumble submission
to Him who is too wise to err and too
good to do wrong,
2. That Macedonia church lms lost a
worthy member, the county a good citi
zen, and his wife a -doyoted husband.
3. That these resolutions be spread on
the minutes of this church, a copy fur

Charleston, Miss.—Mrs. R. V. Heins, of this place,
says: I have never had to use very much medicine,
because if I felt headache, dizziness, or colds, bad taste
in the mouth, whtch comes from torpid liver, I would
take a dose or more of Black-Draught, and it would
straighten me out and make hie feel as good as new.

A doctor received a note asking him
to go at once to a case of smallpox,
bat to bis surprise, on arriving at tlw
patient's bCdslde he found that ft
was merely a ease of rheumatism.
"But this is very plainly not small
pox,” he said.
“Well, doctor,” replied the man, as
he shufflqd one foot over the other, “to
tell you the' truth, we, knew It wa3
rheumatism, but nobody'in the house
could spell the word, and,we thought
smallpox would do just as well until
you came, and probably bring you
quicker.”
Thoro aro three vital processes of
human existence:,—tho digestion of’
food, tho' extraction of 1 nourishment
from It and the elimination of waste.
. Poor digestion and assimilation
mean's failure to derive full nourish
ment from food and that In turn often
means Impoverished blood, weakness,
anemia, etc. Poor elimination means
an accumulation of waste matter
which poisons tho body, lowers vitality,
decreases tho power of resistance to
disease and leads to the development
of many serious Ills.
Rheumatism,—duo to some Inter
ference with the process of elimina
tion, failure to get rid of certain body
poisons,—cannot bo expected to yield
to any medlclno that falls to correct
the condition responsible for It. Could
any reasonable person expect to i "

Think of this. It explains the suc
