THESE PETITIONERS OPPOSE
FARM DEMONSTRATION WORK.
Wo, the voters nml taxpayer* of Cow
eta county, certainly Indorse the action
of the County Commissioners In refus
ing to give *1,200 for continuing funn
demonstration work in this county. We
think it high time that we, ns taxpayers,
should have a right to say what we want
and not bo domineered over by a city
lunch club. If the city lunch club wnnts
nn agent let them pny him out of the
city club’s money. Let the county money
bo put on tlio roads In the country that
are in need of work—in stopping the
ditches and taking out the rafts that
are causing "the rain to wash across tlio
roads. That would pay a thousand times
more to the farmers, which would bo
highly appreciated. So, for God's sake,
Bro. Commissioners, stand pat. Do not
give uhder. Show that you have a back
bone, whieh is needed in so many places
these days. If the county agent wants
to demonstrate let him get down and nt
it The field is “wide.” Lot him take
the average man’s chance, everything
being equal, ami lot him have what I10
makes over and above expenses ns hi*
pny, and nothing more, Let him prove
his faith by his works, and not blow
so much hot sir, for that is easier done
than doing nctiml work—unless the loss
comes from someone else. Let's save
tlio public's money and use it savingly,
as you would your own, remembering
that tho poor people are some of tlio
taxpayers, mid they are the suffering
c.hiHs. Tho Good Book says, “He that
dooth to thfi least of tlicsp doeth it unto

COWETA; COUNTY SHOULD HAVE IT!
1 - . • •
In seven years cotton varieties used in the, county have changed
from numerous kinds, of various worth, to two or three profitable
kinds. Farm demonstration work is largely responsibleI
In 1910 it took an average of HOG pounds of seed cotton to make
a bale. The avearage now is 120Q to' 1300 pounds.'
The production per acre has increased at least 10 per cent. •->
Seed improvement alone ' made it possible to grow £,000 bales
more cotton in 1920 than would have been grown with old-seed varie
ties. That is worth $37) ,000 at present cottdn prices.
Corn acreage increased from 27,000 to 38,000 in ten years; the
average yield per acre from 11 to 13 bushels. The increased yield per
acre is worth $100,000 to the county—even at present low prices.
The increase in corn production for 1920 is worth over$140,000r.
Pasturage* has increased 25 per cent, in ten years.
Forage crops have increased 50 per cent in ten years.
Pork production has increased 30 per cent, in ten years.
The county has been made tick-free; hog cholera has been con
trolled and many valuable animals saved. The hog auction' sales alone
have made the county’s hogs worth $25,000 a year additional^
You will recall many things-Farm Demonstration work has made
possible, in addition to the. progress above stated.
- < _ V
Now, Do Some Straight Thinking!
Isn't it true that the Farm Demonstration work has been largely
responsible for the improvements noted?
Isn't it true that the Farm Demonstration work /tbs been worth
hundreds of times what has been spent on it?
Isn't it true that it is the only money spent for thq farmers’ direct
benefit by the county ?
Tell yqur^County Commissioners you want the work to GO ON!
