About two months ago, in response
to an invitation from Rev. H. E. Stipe,
pastor of the Methodist church, Mm
Leila A. Dillard, Htnto president of the.
Woman’s Christian Tetnperanco Union,
came to Lutherville and organized n
local union, with tho following officers:
Mrs. J. H. Gilbert, president; Miss Bes
sie Lnssottcr, vice-president; Mrs. C. C.
Nall, secretary; Mrs. M. A, Ohnndlor,
treasurer. These women, with their co-
workors—nil of whom nre consecrated
Christian workers, representing the dif
ferent denominations of our community
—have entered whole-heartedly into the
work, having already organized a chil
dron's branch, tho Loyal Temperance
Legion. This department will bo under
the supervision of Miss Clara Williams,
for ycare teacher of tho primary depart
ment of our school. The president con
aiders the children’s branch fortunate
in having ns superintendent one so wall
fitted for leadership, and one who has
the love and confidence of nil tho chil
dren. With Mrs, J. A. Hobbs ns super
intendont of tho child welfare depart
ment, wo have begun work along thnt
line. On Friday last the members of tho
L. T. L ., together with a few. interested
'mothors, met and cleared off a large por
tion of tho school grounds and began
the work of making a suitable play
ground for the children. It was vory
gratifying to have such a largo number
of children present and see how faith
fully they did tho work needed. Wo are
looking forwnrd with great expectations
for the good thin organization will ac
complish for our town and community.
Next Thursday tho L. L. will meet

Miss Lois Hardy left Tuesday morn
ing for Carrollton and Villa Riea, to be

Wlillo threshing wheat Saturday on
the farm of Mr. 0. H. Kempson the ex
haust of the engine in some way ignited
the straw and burned nbout 100 bushels
of wheat. This wns nbout half of Mr.
Kempson’s crop, and is a bad loss ut
this time.
Fayetteville bnseball team came over
Thursday afternoon and walloped the
Seiioia team to the tune of 17 to 3.
An affair enjoyed by quite a number
of moil was tlie drawing off of Elder ’s
mill pond last Friday. About 200 pounds
of fish woro caught nnd moBt of them
fried on tlie banks of the pond.

Mrs. M. R. Rice died on Thursday
night of Inst week, after an illness of
several days. She wus quite old, and her
death was not unexpected. Tlie holy
was carried Saturday to Haralson county
for burial. She loaves several 'children,
who have the. sympathy of tlie entire
community.
Miss Clara Patterson, who underwent
an operation at her home on Murrnay
street Saturday, is doing nicely at this
time, wo are pleased to report.
Mr. Carl Attawny and Miss Rosa
Walker wore united in marriage last
Thursday evening at the parsonage.
Their friends (wish for them many years
of happiness and prosperity.

hospital for an operation.
