In order to take enre of the great corn crop now maturing railways operating in this territory have agreed to estab lish at once transit arrangements cover ing the shucking, shelting and milling in transit of Southern-grown corn. This concession on the part of the transpor tation companies will enable the grower and miller to handle the crop ecnomieal- l,y. Moreover, it will enable the farmer to take advuntage of storage nad, milling facilities at central points without ad ditional freight charges. The importance of this action to the farmer can scarcely be overestimate!, ns it seeniH that lie can find a readier market for Iub corn in large centers; or, if lie prefers, lie cun nvail himself cf storage warehouses where his corn will he secure from the weevil. The smaller communities lack ’ facilities, nnd even if investors wore ready to supply the nec essary funds, the grain elevators could not bo built in time to handle this year’s crop. The Central of Georgia railway...wps one of the prime movers ixfi this niStter, and its freight department lias given out the following statement: "f. ‘The agreement of the railroads simply means that the fanner can ship his corn to some central point, have it shucked, shelled or converted into corn products at tho mills there, and continue its shipment to destination at the through rate that would apply from the original shipping point to the dual des tination, instead of having to pay the local rate to the milling center and then another local rate from the milling cen ter to destination. For instance, the rate on corn from Milieu to Macon is 19 cents per hundred weight, and. the rate on corn products, (such ns meal, * flour, grits, hominy, etc:,:) from Macoh to Newnnn is 12% cents, a total of 36% cents. Under the transit privilege which (ho roads will grant, tho farmer can avail himself of the through rate of 25 cents per hundred, a saving of 11% cents per hundred. Formal notice of tiiis action will be sent out within the next few days, and details may be ob tained from any freight agent of the Central of Georgia railway.” Handle* Sell Them.
