Prof. Fane, of the Ashhurn In-
stitne, filled the pulpit of the M. E.
Church here, Sunday evening last.
The Professors discourse was able,
and the lessor, instructive. The
congregation, though rather smal 1 ,
was well behaved and listened with
becoming attention throughout the
entire evening. We hope to have
Prof. Fane with us again, at an
early date.
Mr Wm. Rigdou, of Worth Coun-
i ty, has monstrosity in shape of
a a
1 rooster. It is said that he will make
a nest lay an egg. and has all of
the peculiarities of a hen. He hast a
comb, one spur and is black on one
side red on the other. Mr. Rigdon,
is positive that he has a hen and a
rooster both in one. The above is
vouched for by several of Mr. Rig-
dons’ neighbors,
In coi versation with our former
reprusensative, Hod. Tims. Young,
last week we learned that the ru¬
mor of his candidacy for sepresen-
tative of this state senatorial dist.,
was without foundation. He says,
“I am no candidate for the above
honors, but will be found in the
front ranks, fighting for the victory
of those of my’ friends who may be
in the race that has so manfully
stood to me in the past. No, I am
not in the race only, as a worker
for my friends.” Mr. Young, we
know, is sincere in his determina¬
tion not to run, but it is so early
in the campaign, we won’t strike
his name from our list of available
men as it may yet become necessa¬
ry for his friends to put him in
tho race.

Life’ Review.
Written for The News :
As I lie in the hours of midnight.
And wist not what to do,
Behold, the days of eurly years,
Do pass me in review.
First come the hours of childhood,
That were too bright to last.
Whose days of happy innocence
TO the Great Unknown have past.
And then we hear the patter
Ot little childish feet,
That years before have left this world
To walk the golden streets.
Over i he waits of Jasper,
Beyond the gates of Pearl,
'f}, e j r Angel hands do beckon us
qh, [j ie other world.
For they only came to tarry,
But for a mtle wbile
gild this lower world of ours,
With the beauty of their smiles.
They blossomed ns the morning (lower
At noon-tide, they wore gone,
As Time, with his relentless s ride,
'Did hurry tlieiir along.
And as we tight life’s battle,
Dur hearts with grief are sore,
As we await our order,
Even from the other shore.
From wicked hate, and malice,
We will at last be free;
And tlw great Arbitrator,
Shall grant us victory.
To keep this prayer within our hearts,
As we drift across life’s sea,
That mercy 1, to others show,
'That mercy be shown to me.

A trap can never borrow himself
out of debt. He musl spend less
and save more than he did when
running into debt, if fie expects to
stay at the surface, and not be
trampled under foot by our modern
