Editor News;
I was at Ashburn Saturday and
saw Capt. J. 8. Betts, Mr. Evans,
Mess. Murray & Gilmore, John A!-,
len and many others. Capt. Betts
bad on a very pleasent smile as if
times were getting better, but the
very best pleased man I saw was
Mr. Morgan Canty. He is a fine
man and did certainly car¬
a very broad and pleasant smile.
I saw that clever Editor of The
Advance. He looked as if he was
enjoying these hog killing times
immensely.
I was at Gus Wells Saturday
He had killed 17 fine hogs Friday
and Saturday and has 15 more to
kill. He will put up 3000 pounds
of pork this winter for his u se af¬
ter selling $80 worth. Gus sold
vegetables, a few skoats some
potatoes and paid the entire expen
eestof making and gaining his crop.
As to that ground that Rae
Smith cleared, they say I am not
staying close enough to facts and
they are saying much. I find that
a good many have been telling of
their sons and daughters in law,
about work and how they are mov
ing along, but it is not pleasing to
some of the mothers in law, as
they think they have as smart and
stirring sons in law as Mrs. C. L.
Royal or any body else has, and
that they are tired of hearing so
much about Ras Smith.
Now Mr. Editor, I will tell you
of my recent set back. I wont to
see my best old girl Sunday and
like Sheriff VanHouten on a cer¬
tain occasion, when I got (here the
other man was there which was a
surprise to me as 1 did not think
anybody could cut me out, but the
old girl did pay splendid attention
to the other fellow and I just
thought I could not stand it. I
went back the next day and taulk
ed tne matter over and she told me
that he was a very clover hard
working sort of a follow and put
her so much in mind of Ras Smith.
So you see how things are going
but I am still in hopes.
I am back into the race for t ax
receiver and in it to stay. Please
publish the within card annoncing
my candidacy. I have no special
reasons to offer lor coming back
into the race. I am off for Colquitt
to day.

Killed Accidentally.
Yesterday morning about nine
o’clock Oscar Golden, a young
man about nineteen years old was
found crushed almost beyond re¬
cognition beneath a pine tree
which he cut down with his own
bands. Young Goldden went out
from his ifslh rs house after supper
an the previou s night with an axe
and said be would cut down some
trees (or rail timber. return¬
ing at bed time his parents decided
he must have gone with some boys
coou hunting. At morning he was
not found in his room but still no
alarm was felt, Lsjter in the day a
Mr. Winters who lives near the
Goldden home accidentally found
the body, revealed the heart rend¬
ing news to young Goldden’s father
who with his own hands took an
axe and cut the log so he could
move'it off the ■ body of his own
dear noy. An inquest was held
yesterday evening before Justice G.
L. Royals and the verdict was in
accordance with the above stated
facts. The Golden family are
poor but of good repute and tbe
loss sustained in the death of their
son is in more thun one sense a
serious one. The News extends
sincerest sympathy to the bereaved
family.
Clever Lon Burton of The Corde
