News.
’’Christmas times” were very qui¬
et in our vicinity, and ihe old year
passed off very quietly from our
view and behold we areatthe thresh-
bold of the new, which u we gladly
w,.loomed.
The Little River Sunday School
convention convened with Ready
Creek Church on the 5th Saturday
and Sunday in last month, with a,
good attendance although the
weather was very disagreeable.
The next meeting will bo with
Mount Pleasant Church in Pulaski
County.
Mr. Z J. Bussell is improving
from a dislocation of his left foot
caused by a falling scaffold, at his
and his brother’s mill several days
ago. We learn that dirt is still be-
ng moved on the line of the A&W
R. This induces us to believe
shat the day is not far distant when
1/ ocoinotives will eteam through
h good old county of Irwin.
The Rev. Basemore has filled his
first appointment at Bethel Church
fast Saturday and Sunday.
Miss Cora Belle Wilcox of Coffee
County is visiting friends and rel¬
atives in this vicinity at present.
I must tell you Mr. Editor I had
Ihe pleasure of meeting up with
j ur correspondent, ‘On the wing’,
again recently, he promptly gave
-s account of the ’’Young Judge’s”
Roubles by lending hie buggy.
Thomas Bussell.
From Minnie.
Minnie, Ga. Jan. Editor News:
Weather, is warm and cloudy
and more rain is expected. Quite
a number of our citizens killed
large hogs last week and they
would rather see cold and windy
weather. Mr. J. Y. Peulk killed
five eighteen months old that made
him over a thousand pounds of
meat. Lias Graham killed ono that
weighed over five hundred pounds
The farmers around here are
breaking up their lands, to be read-
y to plant their crops early.
Theplav at Mr. Sam Walkers
last Friday night was at. enjoyable
affair and there was a large atten¬
dance of both sex, Dr, E. J. Dom-
iney has sold his residence te Mr.
Turner c 1 Jullocl; County who will
open up a first class wood ard work
rhop in t! a building previously.oc¬
cupied by Mr- Tom Fletcher.
Mr. William F. Paulk’s mules ran
away with him in Alapaha on the
Gth inst. and come very near kill¬
ing him, last accounts be was in
bed, but improving. Prof. Jordan
of Colquitt Co. will commence a
school at Pinelevel Church on Mon¬
day morning next with 35 or -10 pu¬
pils. We need a bridge across Wil¬
cox creek near here, as the old one
is nearly impassable. The county
commissioner has offered to pur ¬
chase the lumber and nails it the
citizens around will build. Let us
come together and build it.
A young r .an in our town made
hitnself famous dining the last
term of the county court in 93,but
a young lawyjr from an adjoining
county brought him down a few
buttonholes, owing to bis sympa¬
thetic naturo. Probably Robert will
tell you all about it.
Ociila can boast of as many old
batchelors at any town to its size
in the state, w ; think that it will
soon be a city, and if Mr. Nas Hen¬
derson is elected mayor he will
impose a fine annually onevery one
of them, Dr. Luke included.
Minnie.
Judge Hill On The Wing.
Jan. IS.—Editor News: I have
been in the fourth and in Minnie
districts. Every body is moving on
splendidly with their farm work.
There is some sickness in this loca¬
tions. Mr. W. B. Williams of the
4th district is very sick with the
grip. Mr. Isaac Bussell fell into
his mill race on the 30th of Dec,
and broke his ar.Xle, and came near
being drowned. He is sitting up
now, but has a bad ankle, wnd will
not walk in some time. On the 7th
inst. Mr. W, T. Paulk known s.s
Little Billy, was thrown from his
wagon at Alapaha station, and
come veay near being killed. He
was well enough to sit up some on
the 13th, and was thought he
would soon be all right again.
Mr. Editor you may keep your
eye on R. W. Clements, for he is
certainly one of the most available
and competent men in the County,
except Tfcos. Young. There was no
man in '.he Georgia legislature that
made a better record than Thos.
Young did, he was chairman on a
very important committee, and was
his own clerk, he was entitled to »
clerk, but by doing his own writ¬
ing, and he did it well, and was al¬
ways ready to make his report he
saved the State very nearly as
much as the amount of his salary
while there. There is not a more
suitable man in the congressional
district than Hon. Thos’ B. Young
except Henry Turner, to send to
Congress.
Keep vour eye on Walton Clem > -
ente, he would be at the head of
an i mportant comitte, chairman of
the Ways and Means committee on
appropreations, and he, like Thos.
Young would be his own clerk.
W. W. Hill.
