and compromised the tie between
Messrs. Clements and Tucker by
electing Mr. M. Dixon. Mr. Dixon
ia one of Irwin’s most prominent
men and will make a good school
commissioner.
Married.
Mr. John H. Williams, of
Arabi, and Miss Lela Fountain
were married at the, residence of
the brides parents, Mr. and Mrs.
J. J. Fountain, four miles east of
town on Sunday 23, inst., Judge
G. L. Royal officiating. Quite a
number of friends accompanied
them to the train to see them
take their departure for Atabi,
which will be their future home.

congratulations.
Fire,
The residence of Dr. W. L. Story
narrowly escaped being destroyed
by fire early lart Tuesday morn
ing. The cook having taken the
ashes out of the stove late mon
day evening, set them aside in a
wooden box. There wore tome
live coals in the ashes which, dur
ing the night, burned through the
bottom of the box; then through
floor, and early Tuesday morning
made its appearanne in the shape
of a flame, climbing bis kitchen
wall. Mr. J. W. Griffin, who lives
near tv, saw the fire and raised the
alarm, and it was with difficulty
that the flames were extinguished.
Centerville
With the consent of the post
offlee department, Centerville will
be the name of the new town, four
miles east of Irwinville, on the
Tifton and /Northeastern lailroad.

mayor of our town, gave an oyster
supper at his residence last Tues
day evening to the town council.
