that it would make a better col¬

We gave notice last, week through
these columns of the recent organi
Ration of a Teachers’ Institute ior
Irwin county.
A very important feature of the
Institute is the monthly meetings
to be held at different places over
'the county. We trust that, every
teacher in the county who was not
present at the organization, has
bpen apprised of the same, and wiil
unite with, us at our next regular
meeting to be held at Fitzgerald.
ifeachers, it der ends mainly for
the success and perpetuation of our
Institute, the exertions and per¬
sonal efforts you manifest.
The simple fact that a few have
agitated the matter in our midst
and the number already interested
in the cause, has developed into an
organization, should be a stimulus
to those who have not as yet mov¬
ed in the matter to arise and not
lay in ambush but come boldly to
the front and report for duty, and
sUtend every roll-call. We are not
doing our duty as teachers if we
do not kesp pace and abreast with
the latest and best movements for
(he advancement of the teachers
and to better prepare them for the
proper discharge of the sacred du„
iy of teaching •
There are many features and topics
which we can discuss and dilate
Upon for mutual protection, in¬
struction, and benefit.
Let us go to these meetings then
full of zeal in and for the cause,
and be prepared to lend all the aid
we can in imparting instructions
apd disseminating nuggets of eru
n4t4on which we have plucked by
the way from tho experimental
garden of our pedagogic life.
1 The next, meeting will be held in
Fitzgerald’ on the first Saturday in
April the 3, prox.
We hope every teacher will feel
it his or her duty to attend. Let
nothing deter you from being on
hand.
Preparations will be made for
the entertainment ot all the teach¬
ers on this occasion.
It is requested, and is higRly im¬
portant, that every teacher expect
i'ng i)rof. to go send his or her name to
J. T. Saunders at least five
days prior to the meeting. Prof.
Saunders will be master of ceremo¬
nies and that means much. Re¬

Mr. Editor .— It has rained a
great deal. The tanners are stops
ped for several days.
There was a great loss of life and
property in south-west Georgia l y
a cyclone on Monday the 22, inst.
The wind on last Friday blew
down a lot of timber in this neigh¬
borhood.
It is said that there was s-orae
rough talk at thq Justice court, in
Ashburn, last Saturday between
the court and a lawyer. So much
so that the Mayor had them before
him Monday, and found the court
four dollars arid cost.
I am off to the Brushy Creek
country, when the rain holds up.
