LAFAYETTE GA., Nov. 11,1880.
God bless Dixie, Garfield i« elec
led president, and yet the sun risea,
end Jupiter is just as bright an ev
er.
The Virginia ntinual conference of
the M, E. Church, South, will be
held in Danville the 17th of No
vember.
“Good Tjdiiign” is the title of the
lest new paper started in Atlanta,
but it lias no reference to the prrei
deotinl election.
The Scottaborj Alubutim Oitiun
turna rule* on the election new*,
thus draping it in mourning, end
stand* its rooster on its head.
Our people take the defeat very
calmly and philnaphicnlly. They
are used to it, and there is no nov
elty about it.— Augusta Evening
Sew*.
More money is spent in two
months for political purposes on
each presidential campaign than is
actually collected for religious pur
pose in two years. The Lord
•tauds nojsliow by the tide of u
presidential candidate.
It is useless to cast about for ex
planations of this (iisastcrous result.
Suffice it for the present to know
that everything is lost except hon
or and judging from the cut-throat
contest in New York city and
Brooklyn, it looks as though honor,
if not actually lost, occupies a ques
tionable position. —Mobile Register
dem.
The following from the Atlanta
ConstUuliun is sense : “There uever
was a better time than this to or
ganise yarn mills and mills of every
other desirable description. I
Georgia would resolve to grow us
nearly as possible all that she needs
and would begiu to render her raw
nurtermi more valuable by manu
facturing processes, she would soon
be prosperous and rich. There is no
shorter road to independence and
to power of all kinds than by the
accumulation of wealth. Georgia
has every facility to achieve such a
condition, and if all her people
will work up to their capacity and
circumstances, all will he well, and
very few of them will then care
who is President, provided he does
not deprive them of their undoubt
ed rights.”
