There is a large acreage of wheat being sown in this county this fall, and it in prophesied by our old set tlers that the next will be a good wheat year. Both parties gained a victory in the municipal election in Chatta nooga last week. Frank J. Cohen has bought out the Rome Bulletin, and proposes to make it a first class daily paper. A man named Felker tried a very hold swindling game on Mr. J. M. Robertson in Chattanooga last week, but failed. Ripe strawberrie* of a secoud crop, were for sole in Chattanooga, a few days ago. They were raised 011 Mission Ridge. During the past two years the bonds of Rome have advanced from fifty to ninety-five and ninety-sev en cents on the dollar, Rome received over 7.000 hn'e* I of cotton last week, and the Tribune \ boasts that no other city in the State of the same size can make as i good a showing. The municipal election in Chat tanooga, resulted in the election of : John A. Hart, (Republican) for Mayor. Aldermen—ltej üblicans six. Mc- Ferrin was 34 years old, a traveling -alesmau for a Nashville firm. A fire destroyed the depot at Chickamauga last Friday night, with about 1,500 bushels of corn, j ten bales of cotton and several ac ; count books. The fire was suppos ed to be the work of an incendiary. ! This is the second time within the j past year or two that the depot has been burned. Dade Gazette: A col redjboy about 13 years old was killed at the Fur nace last Monday. While the ele vator was hoisting a lot of flour to the third story in the storehouse ! from some cause the elevator give | way and fell striking the boy and ! killing nim instantly. Says the Calhoun Times: “Mr, I Nick Moss, who lives in this coun \ ty, übout ten miles from town, and i who is now in bis ninety-first year, went bunting the other day and killed eight squirrels at eight shots, j He frequently walks to town and returns the same day, and what is more surprising than mi, he is a candidate for matrimony,” The first issue of the College Girl lias made its appernnee. It is quite diminutive in size, but its literary selections original effusions are ex cellent, and the editors and contri butors deserve no small panegyric for their enterprising efforts. Chattanooga Times: Saturday night Joe Hudson, while coming from Crow’s saloon, was attacked by Ben Lewis on account of an old i feud between them. Hudson push- j ed Lewis aside, when the latter J pulled a knife and made a lunge at j Hudson, the blade cutting overcoat, ; coat, vest the hand of the pants and all the undergarments, and > penetrated his side just over the ! liver, abojt lof an inch. Patterson then fled and Young died defure he was able to tell the cauee of the deed. A reward of 1500 is offered for lie murderer, and if caught lie will probably be lynched. Patterson is about five fi et eleven inches high, weighs about 180 pounds, fair com plexion, blue eyes, glands erect and is well built, wears jeans clothes, with colored shirts. I have known Mr. i’ark since the year 1852 ; and I belonged to the same company in the late war with him, and can say that lie is a man who is always found upholding the right. I would he very glad if the citizens of Walker would give him the oflice he asks for. Little Einuia Cox. daughter of Robert Cox, died at this place No vember 19th. Miss Mary Cox is quite sick. A little daughter of Thomas Ingle who lives a few miles above Trion was badly burned a few days ago. The child was standing by the fire, when her clothes caught fire and before it could be extinguished she was burned probably fatally. Mr. James T. Powel has left Tri on and gone to Chattanooga to work in a car shop. James L Close returned yester day from Poughkeepsie, New. York. N. H. CoKEH. Pollings Prom Subligua. Our friend Milton White is a candidate for Tax Collector, and we heartily recommend him to the consideration of the voters of old Chattooga. We hear of u marriage that is to take place soon.
