We are on the point of leaving
the county to engage in another
enterprise. On the first of January
the Messenger will pass into other
and worthier hands. We have met
with nothing hut uniform kindness
from the citizens of Walker with
whom we have had business rela
tions. Leaving as we do we shall
need everything that is due us on
our books. The individual amounts
are small; but in the aggregate a'e
large. We need the money. We
appeal then to the good will of our
subscribers to come forward to our
help. It will be far better iti a bus
iness point of view, as it will pre
vent all possibility of a mistake
and confusion in the future.

dates; but in obedience to the wish
es of my friends, I hope that my
course will meet with general ap- j

tist church at Kingston.
During the past two years the
bonds of Rome have advanced from 50
to 95 and 97 cents on tiie dollar.
A woman recently visited Rome,
who had never seen a locomotive, a
bale of cotton, an orange, nor a lemon.
The Dalton Citizen says: “We
learn from good authoritv that a cotton
compress will he built here at an
early day.
Dalton is getting to he a great
winter resort, for many families from
the north and west, as well as a suai
uier retreat.
A white man and negro were ar
rested a few days ago, suspected of
complicity in the burning of Chicka
tnanga depot.
The Dalton Citizen thinks that
Georgia should have a dog law, and
Dalton should have a carriage and
buggy factory.
The “small hoy” enlivens ihings
at night, in Rome, with a cap explod
ing pistol. The Bulletin man is about
to get mad about it.

Yesterday evening a huge ('beto
ken Indian, who had been with Sell's
| circus, became slightly intoxicated, and
! seeing one of the hated pale-faces in the
| rear of Crow's saloon, jerked out a pis
j tol and compelled the poor unfortunate
j at the pistol’s mouth to eat mud, which
| demand was complied with. Mr. lo
nian for this hit of pleasantry was ar
rested by officers Ilunnicut and Thom
pson and incarcerated in Hie city jail,
where he now lies in durance vile, no
doubt contemplating emigration to the
Dirt-Eaters in Arizona, where he can
witness the operation of the digestion
of dirt without interference by the arms

We are not as quiet as we use to
was, the * ad weather, the mail, the
eleclioiis &c., are worrying some of
us considerably.
Our P. M. has got along so far
without a fight; hut he has kept
away from the office part of the
time.
Some people are not done sowing
wheat yet. Guess they will quit.
A good deal of cotton to pics yet.
The health of our community is
pretty good.
We have heard of several who
have went west this fall, that are
dissatisfied. Our friend Doc Jones
who went west some time ago—
is very siek. Stay in old Georgia
young man—this is a good place.
