his Magnum Bonum cotton seed.
He thinks that all who try them

waltzing down the vnliey on the
night of the 18th, blew the roof of]'

rooted a great many fruit trees, and
introduced a no fence law.
Mr Meyers is having a road
opened Irom his mill to tho top of
the Mountain. Its an up hill busi
ness of course.

The farmers are real busy, talk,
ing about bow much cotton they
can raise.
Mr. Jacob Massey i-i quite sick.

Dillon, Ga. —We had a terrible
storm on Friday night, doing great
damage to farmers.
Dr. Roe of Birmingham Ala.
spent, last week on the Mountain.
The order of the day is building
fence anil cutting logs.
Mr. W. B. Fowler is planting out
five hundred fruit trees this win
ter.
Mathis and Stevens are doing a
•good business with their sawmill.
W. H. Boatman is building a
new house.
We did not got the Messenger
last week. The mail did not come
on Saturday.
There will he a wedding shortly,
will tell you of it in my next.

Eagle Cliff— All favorable and
i qu’et in our neighborhood, with
i good health and no bad news. The
Prodigals returned last Thursday
from Colorado, in the shape of J. 13.
& A. C. Fausett and families Guess
| they have a hankering after old
! Walker. I am glad and sorry too;
1 glad they got back soon as thy
1 did, and sorry they didn’t get back
sooner. They are a little akin.
Last Friday night during the
hard rain a whirlwind ,visited the
residence of Mr James Long, near
Eagle Cliff, and unroofed his
dwelling house, blew down his
stables, corn crib and smoke-house
and uprooted shade trees and
fruit trees in the yard, in fact it
made a general havoc with every
thing near'the residence, some of
their wearing apparrel being found
over half a mile from the house.
The storm did not last over ten
minutes, and did no damage else
where.
A lawyer once after questioning
a witness s metime, finally asked
who mside him; the witness re
plied that he reckoned that Moses
made him, and asked the lawyer
who made him, the lawyer replied
that Aaron made him. The witness
replied that he had read about
Aaron making a calf, lint he.didn’t
know the darn thing thing had got
to be a lawyer. May he thats the
calf that got in the court house.
While Cotton is all the go I will
tell the readers of the Messenger

few who were present had the

ing talk by the Rev. Mr. Edwards
—subject David’s confidence in the
Almighty, Psalm 23. —His remarks
were short, eloquent, logical and
true.
We were very sorry to hear of
the death of our worthy Sheriff.
He was a man that never feared
d inger, or shrank duty.
The Messenger is still on rising
ground in the estimation of its
readers. May its circulation con
tinue to increase until it reaches

Robirtson preached one of his
most interesting sermons on Satur
day last at the Biptist church, the
rain prevented services on Sunday. ;
The Methodist quarterly meeting
will convene here the first Saturday
and Sunday in March.
Gordon and Tom Lee returned
last Saturday from Thomnsville,
where they have been attendin ' an
agricultural convention. They (
claim to have enjoyed their trip :
very much.
Mr. Mike Plaster lias returned
from Scott county, Ark., where lie
moved last October. He says this
is the best country after all, taking
all things into consideration.
Tin re was a party of persons out
here from Chattanooga Saturday,
who came from the North, recently

We were very sorry to hear of
the death of Sheriff Withers, lie
had a great many warm friends at

Milton Plaster is planting a vin
i yard. We wish him success.
The overseers have been having
j the roads worked, preparing for

L. W. Myers is putting another

; Preaching by the Rev. Mr. Tucker;
I he preached a first rate sermon,
after giving a lively lesson in the
songster, New Life, after service, he
took up a collection to buy a stove
for tin- New Prospect Church. It
has j st been finished, and is now
a good house with two lamps and

post to light it np. The dollar
Messenger creates considerable
j sensation over here. Wo say
hurrah for the Messenger! They
! say it is fast, improving, and begin
j to feel of the purse to see if wo can
j get that dollar to pay for it. Farmers

j seed now. Oat seed are scarce.

Shin Bone—As this is the first
] year I have the Messenger, I think
j it a valuable paper so far. and un
der its liberal terms every farmer

I understand that Mr. C. G.
Sitton proposes to build a wagon
road up at the McConnell gup on
tho following terms: If he makes a
road that one thousand pounds
can he pulled up he receives 850
of the public; fiifteen hundred 875;
and if two thousand pounds, 8100.
He also intends to offer a premium
of ten dollars to the two mules
that can pull the most up. We hope
he will succeed.
Mrs. Emma Taylor, and Mrs.
Inman her mother, has been very
low for a few weeks, we are glad to
learn they are better,
Mr. Ah Mize, an.] Miss Mollie
Mize of LnFayette visited Shin
Bone last Sabbath.
Samuel J. Bailes and M. M.
Crowdei who are going to school in
the Cove at Trickum paid s a
visit on the 19th, they give their
teacher a good name.
The citizens around hero are
trying to get an order for a new
road from Sbin Bone to Valley
Store, and it is needed very much.
