At Summerville Court a gent’e
horse had been taken out of the
shafts and tied to the rear of the
buggy. The ground was not per
fectly level, and when the horse
tightened the hitch rein, the buggy
began to m ve - It took but a mo
ment to change its condition. The

wrecked a wheel and broke a spin
dle.

The yaults in the new Court
House will be a very go od fea
ture. They will he absolutely fire
proof. Heavy Iron shutters protect
the two iron framed windows of
each vault. The floor is a heavy
brick arch that rises from the
ground, and is after wards filled in
on each 6ide to bring it to a level.
Overhead Leavy bars of railroad
iron ccvoied wilh a roofing of cor
lugated iron give security. The
entiar.ee is through two iron doors,
sejcrated by a space of two feet
and Buirounded on every side by
iron. The records once in those
vaults will ho safe.
Died at bis boms, suddenly
Wednesday, the 29th ult., IK J.
Conley, a prominent citizen of
Walker County and one of the old
est settlers- The morning'ot the
fatal day, he had beer, to the field,
where the bunds were at work. At
noor., he ate a hearty. dinner, and
after all had gone back to work,
started himself to the field. He
got out of sight of the house, but
returned at once and told Mrs. Con
ley,* ho had been It f’ entirely alone,
that he had a severe pain in his
left breast. She made Lima pal
let at once, and busied hereelf in
taking steps to give him relief. Mrs.
Hunt, happened to call in at this
time, and saw that Mr. Conley was
dying. In a few minutes h<f breath
ed his last.
Mr. Conley came to Walker with
his father, John Conley, from Ilall
County, in 1835. He married Miss
Catnp, a sister of Win. Camp, of
Dalton, a lady eminent for her do
mestic v’rtues. .In his business he
prospered for he brought to it ap
plication auri judgment. Walker
ha? lost a citizen who will he miss
ed.
