what was he doing here Friday

When Mr. Porch told her that ho

she objected, saying that the last

Mrs. Elxiboth Whitten died nt
Trn n, Feb, sth 1884 Site had
been in feeble health for some
time.
A most sad atT.iir occurred in
our midst ls*t week. Mies Sarah O
(Cricket) Smith bad been com
p'aining a few days of not feeling
very well, and on Thursday rnor
ning her mother concluded to givu
her • doseofquinine. Accordingly
she took tbe quinine bottle a* she
supposed, and measured out tvh it
would be considered # moderut*
dose of quit ino. Imagine her horror
when tbe discovery was made that
morphine had been administered
instead of quinine? Hr. lludicil
was immediately s. nt tor, but did
not arrive U"til three hourß after
the morphine had been adminia
t rd, and by tha time the deadly
drug had done its wotk. Every
thing was dolts that could be, to
arouse her, but to no effect. Crick
et was rather of a weakly consti
tution which fact caused the poi
son to alfict her more severely.
She died about ha'f past two p. m.
the same day. It is not positively
known how much morj hine she
took, but supposed to have been at
least four grains. Mrs. Smith did
not know there was anygiuorphice
iu tbe house. It seems that an
old lady who had bent visiting at
the house had left tbo fatal drug
there. Crick t had many friends
who mourn hei untimely death.
