The prompt dispatch ofihebusi
n<.M of the Court effected by
Judge Branham must be gratifying
to the tax payors of Walker. To
open on M >nday and adjourn
Wednesday morning, is a oredit
able record.
Tue uou resident attoruey* at

Blumate of Ddton, Payne, link
ett and M .no of Ringgold, G ire 1 of
Chattanooga, M vtt x and Hen
ry of S'lmmerville.and Ex-Solicitor
Clem inti of Roms,
It is very wrong to neglect the
use of a disinfectant if the ctse of
contagious sickness. The best ar
ticle is the wisest to usa. Buy
Pheno'. 8 dique from your drug
gist orVorekeeper; it is the best
disinfectant known. See adv.
Court waa well attended on
Tuesday, but the attendance on 'he
whole was a.naller than was ex
pected The beautiful weather of
the early part of the week srade it
tho interest oi tb* farmer to push
forward the work so long delayed.
If any one would see>u interest
i-g spectacle, they should notice
the motlev array of men and horses
which are gathered together on the
“Fort Hill” by|the impulse* of
trade. Tnere, ou the principal
days of court week, you can see
the horse traffio in all its variety.
No Tax Collector of Walker
county has ever had; as large a
sum of money to collect from the
piopleasthe present incumbent,
James C. Hall. No one bas ever
done closer work, or in a more
pleasant manner. He has filled
the office well, aad deserves credit
for the record he has male.
We ysry willingly send the paper
twelve months to subscribers who
live in the county, or at'a reasona
ble distance, without the money.
But our rule is to charge in ad
vance for the paper, when the sub
scriber lives at such a distance
tbft we never get to see them.
Bus Jones, of Ringgold, at
Court, and had on exhibition a
portable fenee. that is the only
thing of the kind that we have evei
seenthtl would do to te to.—
It is cheap, for it can be male
ot rails, and takes but six
rails and two pieces to the panel.
It is handy, 'or awkward hands can
put it Up. It is portable, for yen
can haul eight or ten panels at a
load. It is the best fence we have
ever seen. Address him for circu
lars aud price of right to use it.
The usual charge of the Judge
to t'te Grand Jury at the opening
of each term of the superior Court
was made bv Judge Branham last
Monday at 10 AM, Ilia Hono
wus L oth elaborate and lucid i"
his relerence to the laws to which
he had occasion to refer and con
cise and emphatic in speaking of
the general duty of grand Juror*.
He laid before the Grand Jury the
New Road Law and touched upon
its most salient points in explana
tion thereof, speaking to some
length of the importance of a uni
lorrn system of good roads. The
close of bis charge besides contain
ing special direction as to the in
spection of the books of the county
officers, and the buildings and bus
iness of the county which fall un
der tbeir supervision, embodied a
short discourse (justly aevere
enough) upon the general liquor
laws ol our statejand the special ii- •
qtior laws pertaining to our imme
diate community, and upoD the
lawa against gimir.g and the sale
10l adulterated food or drink. On
thing remarkable about the
charges of Judge Branham to h s
Jurora is his clearness and force of
expression. Tnis gift combined
with a very extensive
xnowhdge and comprehension of
of the .'aw together with his et rn
and impartial adherence to the
path of duty, render him an unex
celled officer of the law.
