Frightful Experience of Two Ken Lost
In the Bowels of Lookout Mountain.
March 25th two gentlemen from
Cincinnati—Charles Gower and
Christ Scnruizier —eutered the
wonderful cave penetrating Look
out Mountain, about four milea
from Cbatianooga. The men were
not seen tc emerge, but the gate
keeper supposed they had done so

exploring party had reached a
point about three miles from the
entrance. Mr. Gower stumbled and
his lanttrn slipped from bis hand

through the eaveand was immedi
ately extinguished, leaving the un
fortunate men in total darkness

the rods and precipic s, ir. vain
seeking a passage that would lead
them to the outer world. Finally
exhausted with hunger, and almost
delirious Irom the herrors of their
tomb, they threw themselves on a
ledge of rocks and gave themselves
up to die. Here they remained un
til a late hour Sunday, when a par
ty of explorers from the city, after
peaetratiag three miles into the
cave, discovered the men ae des
cribed They were starved almost
to death and crazed almost to de
