Kensington Iron and Steel Work",
Philadelphia, says of Phenol So
dique, tbe great remedy for burns,
bruises and cuts: "No one should
be without it, particularly raanu
facturers employing large numbers
of hands. Independent of tie
pleasure of administering relief to
the suffering, it is a pecuniary ad
vantage in saving to them the time
of some valued employes.”
A physician of tbe county was
answering a call the other day,
when, as he was riding along, the
horse of the yoong.man who had
come after lira suddenly seized
him by the thigh and inflicted a
serious wound- Some years ago,
in Chattooga, a gentleman led h e
mare, a gentle animal, to water.
His little girl was standing by the
trough. Without any warning,
his nag seized her by the cheek,
taking out a piece of tbe flesh and
scarring her for life-
Our laws in regard to drunken
ness are defective. It should be
made a misdemeanor for any one
to sell to, or procure for, a drunk
aid, liquor. It could be made the
duty of the Grand Jury to say who
are drunkards. When both parents
aie so classed, then tbe law should
require the Ordinary to bind out
trie children, if they are so unfor
tunate as to have any. To leave
them to be brought up by a drunk
en father and mother, is to educate
them in so degraded a school that
they inevitably become kw-hreak

A prominent farmer of the Upper
Cove was out the other day in com
pany with a friend looking for a
cow. He did pot find her, but
came across a sow that had wan

| corn, which he had brought in bis
! haversack, ha began to toll her
! home. All went merry as a mar
! r iage bell, until, s‘ill intent on his
work, he happened to pans an over
grown ram, that felt himself mon
arch of all he surveyed. Waiting ;
until the farmer had passed him,
anti was fairly »» position, he took '
a running stsrt, ar.d striking him
plum center, landed him about ten
steps further on his road. Corn,
haversack and hat were icuttered
in different directions, and as the
surprised and wounded Confeder
ate picked himself up nfter the at
tack in the rear, he was madder
than he had ever been in the army
of Virgiuia. It took but a moment
after the rocks got in motion to put
his adversary to flight, and then in
his rage he turned on his friend
with the demand why he did not
let him Know the brute was com
ing? "llow could I? He got there
too quicK.” was the reply. The
cow has been looKed for since, but
the owner travels now over that
dangerous ground on horsebacK.
He doesn’t want to be struck by
lightning again.
