The Cantata promises to be a sig
nal success and a large attendance

published as soon as agreed upon.

Notwithstanding the inclemency
of the weather last Sunday there
was Sabbath shool in all of the
churches. It was also the day for
ths Presbyterian communion ser
vices.
Ephraim Marsh, of Chattooga,
who returned some week 9 since
from a short visit to the west, was
in town this week, Ha was pleas
ed with Texas and has invested
largely out there in both cattle and
land.

members of all the ectools have
manifested considerable interest in
the matter and the probability is,
that in the near future, the three
Sabbath-Schools will recreate in
unison.
Not long since, on the Ridge
near Ringgold, Lewi3 Ileuslee, a
young man who resides in that
place, captured a large dry land
terrapin. On bis shell was cut:
“Company K., Ohio Veteran Vol
unteers, March 16, 1864. Near one
eud ot his shell was cut the word
“Union."
The Democratic Executive Com
mittee of this county have request
ed us to give notice that there will
be a meeting in the Court House
next Tuesday, to select delegates to
the Convention to meet in Atlanta
the 18th of June,to select delegates
to the Chicago Convention- All
Democrats are requested to be pres
ent.
M A. Chastain has bought from
J. 11. Hammond and G, M. Na*
pier, the lot they recently purchas
ed. He will proceed at once to
erect thereon a commodious store
house. As soon as he can move
into bis new building. G. M Na
pier will occupy the building in
which tbe former now dots busi
ness.
In a collection of flowers front
the garden of Miss Mollie Rusell, of
Rock Spring, was a rose with a pe
culiar lurmation. Its color was a
beautiful deep red and its petals
were of a most perfect shape, but
right iu the center were three per
fect buds, not ye t blown, growing
from the stem of the otherwise
faultless flower.
We publish in this Esue a card
of the Nashville, Chattanooga and
St. Louis Railway, the popular
“MeKenzie Route,” the favorite
road for Western emigration. Mr.
W. T. Regers, the widely known
passenger agent, stationed at Chat
tanooga, will take pleasure in giv

Thomas Shields, a colored man
once of some prominence in Duck
Creek Valley,'whose home is now
in Tennessee, has been visited by
great misfortune Net long ago he
bad the misfortune to lose his mind
and came back to this county.
Very recently bis two boys, one >en
the other sixteen years of age,while
crossing a bridge with a heavy la»
den wagon were drowned. The
bridge broke through and precipi
tated wagon, team and boys into
the river- all being lost,
