WHAT INFLUENCED KITTY V
An extraordinary cat atory is
told by the Worcester Gazette.
What it illustrated, we don't exact
ly know. It may show the cat’s
obedience Dr habit, or its respect
for superior strength. Perhaps, as
the Gazette suggests, it may exhib
its a cat’s pity and generosity,
though the chronic feline selfishness
makes this last supposition doubt
ful:
A householder is the possessor of
two Thomas cals, the elder of
which has never shown anything
hut a selllsli, grasping disposition,
while the younger is the possessor
of a generous, happy spirit.
At meal-time the elder of these
two feline brothers has an unpleas
ant habit of forcing his junior to sit
at the second table, in fact showing
a selllsli and catty disposition.
His greediness has often excited
the indignation of members of the
family, and when, one day, the
daugnter of the house went to feed
them, she took Master Selfishness
by the nape of his neck, and inti
mated to him that he should wait a
few minutes, until the other had
had his dinner.
The young one, astonished at the
sudden turn aifairs had taken, gazed
asparalyzed at the feast thus spread
before him. His astonishment,
however speedily gave place to pity;
lie could not appreciate the justice
of this unusual division of food.
Grasping in his jaws the largest
piece of liver on the plate, he has
tened to deposit it beneath the nose
of his captive brother, who made
short work of it, while the Samari
tan tietook himself to the remainder
of the food.’
