T1 is has certainly been a re- 1
marKable year. A succession of
stoTins and cyclones h»s unnerved
the entire country and even after
the season for them has passed,
small ones keep coining The rains
have interfered with the farmer
and damaged hiscro) s. But strange
things do not happen often and it
is safe to expect an interim of some
years before we have a return of
the terrors and horrors of tho re
cent past.
One of tbe most singular storms
ever Know iu this soofion, visited
ub on the night of July the 30tb.
last night a week ago- The wind
was not extremely fearful, but the
rain fell in torrents. The most pe
culiar feature was the wonderful
display of electricity. The heavens
were illuminated by the brilliants
that broke lrom tbe continual and
rapid flashs of lightning. From
the extreme North east to tbe
horizon of the West the lightning
would flash in a broad line of light
and burst in'o a myriad of forked
tongues of fire, So quicK was the
auccessioD of flashes that tbe light
was constant as well as brilliant.
A few trees and some fencing were
blown down, bu* no other damage
was done. Os Sunday evening
following, a second wind with some
rain came.
