Robert Junk in, who died Wed
nesday morning of last week of
dropsy of the heart, was buried at
the Macedonia Cemetery. Besides
the funeral services conducted by
Rev E W Ballenger, Revs D Thur
man and M H Boyd spoke a few
words, the entire services being
very touching.
Some days ago just after dark,
two men on horseback met J. D,
McConnell near his store in Broom
Town, and asked hi in if they were
on the right road to Gaylesville. Be
ing told they were, they then said
| they wanted to buy something to eat.
Mr. McConnell went into his store
while the men remained irt their
saddles. One of them called for a
plug of tobacco. When it was hand
ed him, the two galloped off into
the darkness. Mr. McConnell got
his horse and gun. and in compa
ny wiih John Renfro, rode down
the road four miles, trying to over
take them. But a foils below his
store, they had left the Broom Town
road aftd turned off to Mt. /ion,
where there was a meeting in pro
gress. The parties live in Walker
Gbunty and are known. It is |
thought that five dollars, under all j
the circumstances, will be a fair'
price for the tobacco.

vey is ou tie same level. The high
tst elevation on the line is uerr J,
C. and J. L. Clements, live miles
north of Crawfish. Imre, it is two
hundred aud eighty five feet above
the starting point. Under tLeir
orders now that they have reached
the mouth of Duck Crecx, they
will turn back and run a second
line, this time fiom Rock Spring
through Crawfish and Dry
Creek Valleys to the junction of
Duck and Chattooga Creek*.

M A Chastain.
The surveying party under Mr.
Sears, which has been making a
railroad survey from Chattanooga
to Rome, has been in the fidld three
weeks. The line run by them, cross
es the Pike near the Wool Factory,
keeps on the West side of the road,
and leaves McFarland’s to the East.
It goes by Crawfish, crosses the
Crawfish Creek east of the Spring,
and Chiekamauga near the Lee-
Glenn Mills. It comes into the old
grading near Shield’s shop at Rock
Spring, and follows that to LaFay
ette. From this place, it runs to
Thurman & Foster’s Mills, and
down the east side of the Broom
Town Valley to Hammond’s Mills.
They are doing thorough work, but
whether their stakes are to be left
to rot in the ground, as has been the
ease with other surveys is for the
future to say. The most hopeful
feature in the situation is the influ
ence that will be given by Tfion.
Its fifty thousand pounds of freight
per week is a weighty argument in
favor of a railroad, and whenever
D. F. Allgood’says the time lias
come and it can be built, Chattoo
ga and Walker will assist liberally.
