Mrs. Blackwell, the widow of
Thomas J Blackwell is very low
with fever.
Mrs. J W Head of Cedar Grove
died Monday the 25th inst., of con
sumption.
Sickness of many kinds has been
quite prevalent of late throughout
the county.
Mr. and Mrs. John Thurman
have a fine daughter, born Monday
the 25th inst.
Monday afternoon was the warm
est of the month. TVespiration
was in order.
The Baptist meeting closed last
Friday with 3 additions to the
church by baptism.
Mr. Warthen’s wind mill is now
actively going. It seems to be too
high to frighten horses.
Candidates have circulated
freely among the citizens congrega
ted during the week.

was well attended. Geo. Patterson

Jus. M MeCollough, who innr
ried Miss Emma Buttle died in
Rome of typhoid lever, Wednes
day of last week. At the time of
his death, he was book keeper for
Joe B Patton.
Mr. Ballenger was unable to
fill his appointment at Trinity last
Saturday and Sunday, being sick
at the time. A large Congregation
was present on the Sabbath, ho
ping to hear him. He is still quite
unwell.

John Davis Sr., has a walking
stick sent- to him by his sou Cicero
from Nevada that is made from the
Rocky mountain cedar, tjnliko the
common cedar, it is Unusually
heavy. In appearance and weight
it is very much like Mahoga

We received some days ago from
Chattooga a communication con
demning in strong terms the con
duct of certain parties who had
passed tne house of the writer, A
fictitious name was signed to the
article. If yon have a complaint
to make to the public, let it be over
your true name.
The meeting conducted by Mr.
Espy at the Baptist church in Sum
merville which closed last Tuesday
was very much blessed. Twenty
were baptised on that day, w’hile
twenty nine had been baptized the
Sunday before. The total additions
to the church number, we believe
fifty-seven.
Capt. C B Atkins, Subligna re
ports the frst cotton that is open.
He sent the first bale to Trion three
years ago and stands a good chance
to do the sanle thing again this
year. He says his cotton is as good
as it has ever been. The secret, in
his opinion, of having early cotton,
is in topping—a rule that but few
cotton raisers observe.
C. 0. Cleghorn of Chattooga is a
candidate for the Legislature. His
record is well and favoribly known,
but there is one thing that can be
said to his credit that only his
neighbors knew. N o one, when he
was farming, conld stack a straw
rick with as much skill as he could.
