The strongest recommendation
that any article can have is the
endorsement of the mothers of
the town. When the mothers
recommend it you may know that
that article has more than ordi
nary merit. Here is what the
Centerville, South Dakota, Citi
zen says editorially of an article
sold in tlieir town: “From per
sonal experience we can say that
Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy
bas broken up bad colds for oui
children. 'Ve are acquainted
with many mothers in Center
yiUe who would not be without
it in the house for a good many
times its cost, and are recom
mending it every day.” 50 cent

Norman L. Mur.ro Dead.
New York, Feb. 26.—Norman
L Munroe, known to the Ameri
! can public as a great publisher
aud yachtsman, died Saturday
evening in his apartments in the
Hoffman house from the effects
of an operation performed upon
him Friday for the removal of
the vermiform appendix.
Mr. Munroe was born in Nova
Scotia about fifty-one years ago.
Until ho was twenty-five years
old he was n farmer. Then he
came to New York to enter the
employ of his brother George,
who was already established as a
publisher. Later, with a very
meagre capital, he started a
publishing business of bis own,
which was a success from the first.
In tne twenty-seven years in
which he worked as a publisher,
with offices at No. 24 Vandewater
street, he accumulated a fortune
ol more than $1,000,000. The
extent of his enterprise may be
inferred from the fact that when
he brought suit in 1866 for an in
fringement of a patent he made
affidavit that he had spent $350,-
000 the year previous for adver
tising alone.

Woof! what a snow.
[Feb. 2Gtb. A, F,Shaw,
Chickamauga,
Tho snow yesterday was one as
the deepest of the season, meas
uring from 6 to 8 inches over the
the streets here generally. To
wards night it turned to almost
ruin, but left everything in a con
dition to be quite disagreeable
this morning.
J. 1.). has quit the chicken bus
iness and has no more to do with
it, therefore wishes it distinctly
understood that he is out.
While plowing last week in Mr.
Dawkins’ field, Mr. Jesse An
thony with a two horse plow was
thrown from his balance by the
plow striking a large snake about
the neck, throwing tne plow to
one side, and Jesse six feet there
from. After picking himself up
and making examination he found
the snake’s head about half se
vered from the body, however
able to make signs of biting. It
was a spreading adder—head
when mad measured three inches
across—body 4 inches in diame
ter, and about four feet long.
Louis Laster who was following
Anthony with another plow,raised
another snake at the place,which
was larger than the first one,
though with worse luck as it
struck him about the foot, and
the services of l)r. ltudicil and
Dr. Elder, were required to save
his life. I would keep a sharp
lookout while plowing in that
field.

The grip has a new start in this
section and the possibility is no
end to the plague. 1 took one
dose, but am no better yet. The
medicine of which I had refer
ence to last week, was taken, but
did nothing only make me look
pretty—grip still holding on.
Mr. Hight of Rome came up
yesterday morning, having with
him his tine bird dog; ulso gun
and equipments for a week’s
hunt. He and Gordon will make
the birds hide out this week, pro
vided the snow doesn’t get over
waist deep.
I have lost sight of Tol, but
understand that ho has taken up
quarters in the honey cave, only
a short distance from his house.
Charley Simmons who went
west a few days back, returned
recently with a full grip sack of
honey flitters,obtained from those
honey trees in “Arkansas.” He
is now prepared to give any par
ticulars necessary to obtain an
abundance of those slitters, by
simply going out with the neces
sary grabs to pluck them off with.
Richard Davis is taking lessons
and will start in a few days.
1 understand that a telegraph
line is being erected between Ly
tle and Mrs. Viditos, which will
be operated in the interest of the
strawberry growers.
This snow has completely ruin
ed Rush’s tannery, as all his
hides are snowed under; but has
struck a better streak—received
a bushel of new kind of pea seed,
and will plant them as soon as
court adjourns, provided he can
secure the sticks for them to wind
around.

“The people of the vicinity in
sist on having Chamberlain's

any other,” says John Y r . Rishop,
of Portland Mills, Indiana. That

Three days is a very short
time in which to cure a bad case
of rheumatism; but it can bedone,
if the proper treatment is adopted,
as will be seen by the following
from James Lambert, of New
Brunswick, Ills: “I was badly
afflicted with rheumatism in the
hips and legs, when I bought a
bottle of Chamberlain’s Pain
Balm. It cured me in three days.
I am all right to-day; and would
insist on every one who is afflicted
with that terrible disease to use
Chamberlain’s Pain Balm and get
well at once.” 50 cent bottles
