STRENGTH WHERE NEEDED.
The Milburn [Principle.—
QTi& The weakest part of other wheels is the point where the spoke
enters the bub. In our wheel this point is strengthened, because
tne spoke is largest there and has a larger bearing surface, and it iB
sot weakened by a sharp corner.

Sunday while the Sabbath
Sohools were in progress Mrs. F.
W. Copeland called the attention
of Judge Young, col., to the
smoke that was coming from a
doable cabin belonging to Messrs.
Steele and Fortune that stood be
tween their residence and their
large barn. He raa down and
found it on fire at the north end
between the ceiling and the roof.
The alarm was given and the rush
to the scene began. At the Pres*
byterian ohurch the sexton noti
fied Capt. Steele, Some under
stood him to say the church was
on fire and their attention was
turned at once to saving the little
ones and tbe books. When one
lovely lady learned that it was her
home where the conflagration was
m progress, with a scriptural ex
pression the armful of books she
was carrying was scattered to the
four winds, and she left for the
place of danger.
Those who had gathered saw
at once that nothing could be
done towards saving the cabin
and that it would take prompt
work to save the residence and
barn. Fortunately it was compar
atively still and what air there
was came from the west, carrying
the flame and sparks east of tbe
house. It took but a few minutes
for such active workers as Will
Withers, Bogle Johnson, Dixie
Borders, Boy Wimpee, Item Har
mon, Dr. Underwood and G. P.
Collins to climb upon tbe roof and
begin passing up a steady stream
of water in buckets to dampen the
shingles.
Wet quilts were also brought
into requisition.
At tbe barn very faithful work
was dose by some of the oolored
hands assisted by white volun
teers.

A Happy Event.
Tuesday at the home of the
bride’s father, occurred the hapoy
marriage cf Miss May Park, loved
by all for her many charms and
graces, to Mr, M. O AlexauUer, a
young rnau of sterling business
worth aud capacity, of Union, 8.
C.
The home was beautifully dec
orated aud the coretuouy was
witnessed by quite a number of
relatives aud friends. Those pres
ent were:
Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Center aud
Mr. aod Mrs. Potts and
family, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. {Bim
mons andtfumily, Mrs. Cora Linn,
Misses M. L. Patton, Cora Batts,
Anna Simmons, Annie Driscoll,
Emma Napier, Victoria James.
Mouuie McWhorter, Berry Brice
of Rock Spring, Mattie Gore, of
Trion. Rev. C. Z. Berryhiil,
Messrs. Arthur Alexander of
Charlotte, N. C., Olen McWhor
ter, E. E. Culberson, N. C. Na
pier, Jr., and Walter James,
The marriage was promptly
at three o’clock pr and was per
formed in an impressive manner
by Rev. B. D. Lnoas, of Sooobow,
China. While Mrs. McClelland
at the organ brought fortb the
soft sweet straius of Mendellsohn’s
Wedding Marob tbe bridal party
entered. The attendants were
Misß Berry Brioe attired in a
beautiful dress of pink oretou
trimmed in pink silk, accompa
nied by Mr. Mack Park; Miss
Fannie Park, prettily dressed in
white organdie oyer blue, accom
panied by Mr. Arthnr Alexander,
brother of the bridegroom. Then
came tbe bride looking resplend
ently handsome in lustrous white
satin sent from far off China to
enhance the beauty and increase
the loveliness of oue of Walker’s
fairest daughters.
Congratulations and good
wishes having been offered by all
present, the company retired to
tbe dining room where an elegaut
luncheon was served. The bridal
cake was then divided among all
present and many were the nar
row escapes from the prediction
of future old maids or bachelors.
The bridal party left on the fi
o'clock tram for Mooresvdle, N
C. where they will make a short
visit to Mr Alexander’s parents.
Aud as the traiu pulled out their
aumerous friends evidenced their
good wishes in showers of rice,
and the engineer, realizing the
preciouß load on board showed
his anxiety for their safety by
long and piercing blasts of the
whistle.

What is the use of making u
better article than your comp'di
tur if you aau not get a better
price for >t?
Ans.—As there is no difference
in the price the public will buy
only tbe better, so that while our
profits may t»o smaller on a single
sale they will be much greater in
tbe aggregate.
How can yon get tbe public to
know yonr make is the best?
If both articles are brongbt
prominently before the pnblio
both are certain to be tried and
tbe public will very quickly pass
judgment on them and use only
the better one.
This explains the large sale of
Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy.
The people have been using it for
years and have found that it can
always be depended upon. They
may occasionally take up with
some fashionable novelty put
fortb with exaggerated claims,
but are certain to return to tbe
one remedy that they know to be
reliable, and for coughs, colds
and croup there is nothing equal
to Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy.
