U'it its awful dry just now. Cool 1
nights and warm days. It is so dry
wo ran t sow oats or tlx the land for
whom. With only half crop of corn
and cotton it begins to look serious i
to a one-oyod man. There is one ro- 1
dooming feature for the farmer,
there has boon a lino crop of hay
saved. Wo will have to winter ouri
slock on hay and save our corn for
summer, for corn will bo prohibi
tively high next year; it looks like it!
would touch the one fifty notch by,
next May. All the host land was
drowned out and whore the land is
a little thin there is no corn on the
stalks. Cotton will do well to make a ■
half crop if it does that well. Sup- j
pose the price is good if you haven’t I
got the cotton what does the price
amount to? 1 am afraid that the
■high price of cotton will make the
farmers lose their head and plant
ill cotton next year. Wo ought to
profit by past experience of year be
fore last and make all home sup
plies at homo and make cotton the
surplus crop. Make all you live on
■t homo and put in a few acres in
otton and make those few acres
make what cotton you have boon
naking on more land, and hero lot
no say that two many men own too
much land.
Well. Sam, you have lights, now '
make you a sidewalk of your own.

The independents believe in the
good old Democratic doctrine that
the expressed wishes of the people
should Ire respected not in the late
country primary—biers your bones
no. But wind, in the riming eleclion
they are hoping will be in favor of
the independent s’ horses in the race,
and in the event they are elected,
yes in the event that ttiey are elec

people honestly, faithfully and im
partially, with little cost if any at
all to the tax payers, so help me,

Let us contrast that position with
that of Dr. Fariss in his card in last
week’s Messenger, here’s what he I
says. “Let us as citizens of a great.

rattier than construct and build up.
Let us work in harmony and friend

WHAT CATARRH IS
It has been said that every third
person has catarrh in some form.
| Science has shown that nasal catarrh
often indicates a general weakness
of the body; and local treatments in
the form of snuffs and vapors do little,
if any good.
j To correct catarrh you should treat its
cause by enriching your blood with the
oil-Dod hi Scott’s Emulsion which is a
medicinal food and a building-tonic, free
from alcohol or any harmful drugs. Try it.

For the first time, I wish to say a few words gi
about that Sewing Machine which you anticipate
buying this fall. i]
Ist. When you buy, isn’t it logic and economy |j
to buy the best? 2nd. Which is the best, and
who knows, or how shall it be decided? [
(As to the best.) Worth is determined by *
proof, and proof developes merits, and “Merit” is
what you want.
For seventy long years the entire world has
long since decided that the “Singer” Sewing Ma
chine is the best, because it has “Proved its
Merits.” j
The Singer has taken every world’s prize, viewed !
from a point of easy running, quality, and capa
