Fop Congress
I hereby announce myself as a can
didate for congress for the 7lh dis
trict in the .National election to be
held on November 7th, as the regu
lar republican nominee and if elect
ed 1 pledge mvselt to do everything
in my power to advance the inter
ests of our people. The democratic
primary will he held on September
12 to select its candidate and in
view of the fact that both candidates
in this primary are running on the
same principles I respectfully urge
the voters to refrain from voting
that part of the ticket and leave
themselves perfectly free to choose
between our respective platforms,
which I will try to discuss with the
voters before the final election.
Very truly yours,
\V. A KERMAN.
Cartersville, Ga.
For Clerk
T hereby announce myself inde
pendent candidate for Clerk of the
Superior Court. I solicit the sup
port of every voter and if elected I
promise to serve (he people faith
fully and impartially. Holding that
to serve the people is the first duty
of every public official, if elected, I
shall strive at all times to make the
office serve the majority and not the
minority.
DEED BIRD.
Having received strong solicita
tion from many good Democrats and
•citizens generally, I have decided to
announce as a candidate for Clerk of
Superior Court of Walker county.
I believe in the good old demo
cratic doctrine that (he expressed
wishes of a majority of the people
should be respected in the public
affair* of the county, and earnestly
a«k the support of every voter.
When an official has received the
■endorsement of a majority of the
people, I regard it as his duty to
respect the rights and interests of a
majority by performing his full
duty impartially under the law; and
if he fails to do so, he has no just
claim to their further support.
If elected, I promise to faithfully
perform the duties of the office im
partially, and without favor to any
■olas;:, person or faction. It will be
my pleasure, as well as duty, to
serve all parties with equal prompt
ness and fidelity.

Catarrh Mean? |
It means inflammation of a

TIMELY SUGGESTIONS
FROM COUNTY AGENT
By A. Ycatch
I I
<i>~ —.j.
Attended Agents’ Aleetinii
Most of last week was spent in At
lanta at a meeting of the county
ageids of the northern district of
Georgia. It was interesting to hear
of the work being done in other
counties of the state.* Our county
was able to show as good report as
any of them as regards the intro
duction of pure bred cattle. In or
ganization work they have done
more than we, or most of them. In
the counties where the agent is sup
ported with sufficient funds he is,
of course, making greater progress.
This meeting was addressed by
several prominent men in agricul
tural work, and it was indeed inter
esting to note from (heir talks the
increasing tendency of the govern
ment and business interests of the
country toward aiding the farmer,
and the growing popularity of the
county agent.
Hop Cholera
In a few places there is still some
chelora among the hogs. This dis
ease cannot be eradicated unless the
people will co-operate with me, and
go about it in an intelligent way.
Inoculation, from my own exper
ience, is not very effective unless
done under the proper conditions. 1
And where the fever has reached 105
degrees there is no use to treat (them.
This may lie the case with some in a
herd where they do not appear lo he
sick. When the disease strikes a
herd before inoculating them, their
temperatures should he taken. Those
running from 103 lo 105 should not
hi l treated. There are other things
lo consider also. Where they are
kept in a filthy place and their gen
eral health run down, allowing them
to become wormy and lousy, they
are much more susceptabe to the
disease, and even when inoculated
the protection is effective for only a
short time. You rarely see the
cholera, strike ahealthyherdofhogs.
Diseases Among Cattle
The season lias been extreme and
as a result the farmer will ilnd
more trouble in keeping his cattle in
Ihe healthy, thriving condition he
should to protect his profits. Cattle
running on the dry pastures this fall
should be looked after to prevent
disease getting among them. See
that they get plenty of water and
salt them frequently. Lookout for
the twisted stomach worms. If they
swell up under the throat and begin
to lose flesh, usually having I lie
scours, seeming hungry, you can
treat them for this worm. Put them
up at night, net allowing them any
feed, and next morning give them
gasoline in sweet milk as a drench.
Give from I lo 2 o/.s. depending on
Ihe age. Reoeat this not more (ban
twice.
Go To Atlanta Fair
As many farmers from Ilic county
as possible should go to (lie South
eastern fair in Atlanta, which lasts
from Ocl. lilh lo the 21st. A few
have indicated their desire to go and
it looks like wo could get up a few
cars to go. Why not Ids do this? We
can get together at Lafayette and
go. II I hail the names of those who
would go, could arrange for if.
