RIDGEWAY *
* +
No sickness to report. We have
had about 6 weeks of dry weather
and the crops are well worked. The
holl weevil and red spider are doing
their part.
Now tjmes are hard, work and
money seem to be out of reach. Let
every red blooded Walker courty
citizen show his color, Saturday July
2nd and go to the polls and vote for
bonds and help to bring $400,000 in
fo Walker county that are not here
and will bring work that is needed.
• I hear so many farmers that say
they don't know what they will do
when they lay by their crops. They
say their credit system will slop and
there is no work to do and I am like
the* farmers too. If we fail to answer
the call of duty that we owe to our
county, our family and ourselves,
wo will want work, and money and
meat and bread.
Our S. 8. is progressing nicely
with its new oßlcers, X. C. Man, Supt
and S. 8. Adams assistant and Miss
Mattie Brown Sec.,
J. T. Adams and family have re

We sure are needing rain
I would like to say a word in re
gard to Bonds. Some people say if
we get bonds times will be harder
and some will vote against their
own interests by failing to vote for
bonds. If we get bonds we get gov
ernment aid and without bonds we
do not get it, so I don’t sec why any
one should vote against bonds. Three
cheers for bonds and better roads.

One Dollar Raved Represents Ten
Dollars Earned
The average man does not save to
exceed ten per cent of his earnings.
He must spend nine dollars in liv
ing expenses for every dollar savd.
That being the case he cannot be
too careful about unnecessary ex
penses. Very often a few cents prop
erly invested,, like buying seeds for
his garden, will save several dollars
outlay later on. It is the same in
buying Chamberlain's Colic and Dia
rrhea Remedy. It costs but a few
cents, and a bottle of it in the house
often saves a doctor's bill of several
dollars.

WALKER COUNTY MESSENGER, JULY 1, 1921.
LETTER FROM A CITIZEN
God gave the hills for the rattle
and sheep of Jacob and the children
of Israel, but the grasping rich will
deny us the right. Esau traded his
birthright for a mess of pottage,
but you will sign that away and not
get that. Then who will give your
children milk. Let no man deceive
you; its time to wake up Mr. Rent
er, Mr. Public Worker and Mr. Small
Farmer. When you have signed your
title away you will never get it
back. Hold what you have. Will you
trade meat and milk for promises?
This is the prayer from the hill dis
tricts of Walker to those who live
in the districts now under Stocklaw.
Men, if you are pleased with that
law we are glad to know it, bjp we
don’t want it.
Don’t force an unjust law on your
fellowman. If you can’t vote with
| us don’t vote against us. As the col
! orod parson said to the Lord as the
i bear gave hot chase: “Oh Lord if
you can’t help me, don’t you help
dat bear.”
Thousands of acres in the valliet
are open for pasture and water is
free to all, but pass this law and
how can the small ridge farmer who
has no water live. Not one acre in
thirty on Lookout Mt., is under
fence, and it reaches some thirty
miles in Walker county. Fat cattle
now stand knee deep in grass all ov
j’er this range, but where will they be
if you pass the slock law on Wed
nesday July 6th., 1921? Who will
, feed the cow of the small mountain
farmer as the grass wastes and dies
in millions of tons around his home?
It is hard for him to feed her in
the winter and will you push th ! s
burden on him in the summer.
Listen to the cry of the moun*ain
babies. Those wanting stock law in
the districts of Walker county n>t
already having it, have tried to vote
it in by districts and failed. Now
they are looking to the districts who
have it to force on those not want
ing it. That will not be just and right
or an American citiren way of doing,
adv, CITIZEN.
