planted a field of cotton on May lilh
and picked a full bloom on July 8.

Stock I*aw election in last week’s
issue the vote in Cane Creek district
was for Fence 32; for No Fence, 37.
The Messenger was in error and the

Mrs. Carrie Wardlaw spent the
winter in Arkadelphia, and Hot
Springs, Ark, visiting relatives and
friends. She reports a delightful
trip through the oil fields of Ark.,
and Okla. She is now visiting rela
tives at Pittsburg, Kans. after which
she intends to make a trip to Ros
well Springs, Oregon, returning to
‘Georgia the latter part of the year.

visiting relatives.

school convention of the A M E

Thursday morning in a 3-day ses
sion. The convention embraces the
A M E churches from Chattanooga,
to Atlanta, and a large representa
tion from the various colored Meth. _
churches is expected.

At the Third Quarterly Conference
Dalton District, Methodist church,
at Rock Springs Sunday, reports
showed the financial condition of the
LaFayette and Rock Spring church
es in splendid condition. Also on this
day the Rock Spring Sunday school
observed children’s day, the Sun
day school pupils rendering a most
impressive and delightful program.
Dinner was served on the grounds
and as usual a most sumptious
spread was prepared by the good,,
women of the Rock Spring church.)

Eldridge Urinslleld, son of Rev.

day afternoon picked up a live wire
on the sidewalk on South main
street, and received painful bums
in his left hand. Before he could be
extricated from the wire the cur
rent had to be turned off at the
power pstation. The wire had bro
ken and fallen on the sidewalk and
Eldridge thought he would remove
the wire from the walk. He was
pot seriously injured and is rapidly
recovering.

John the Evangelist, St. Paul.
The bride will be attended by a
matron of honor and four brides
maids. Wayne Spence' or Chatta
nooga, brother of the bridegroom,
.will serves as best man.
A reception will follow the wed
ding at the home of the bride’s par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Patterson.
, Mr. Spencer is a former member
of the faculty of Chattanooga High
School and has a number of friends
here who will be interested in his
'approaching marriage The bride is
a niece of Miss Bogart, who made
tier home with Mrs. Powell Clayton
while engaged in Red Cross work in
Chattanooga. After organizing train
ing work at the local headquarters
Miss Bogart, went abroad, where she
pontinued her service with the Red
Cross.

of the surrounding county will be

organizing the convention, after
which Dr. Mullens will have charge.

the surrounding churches, directed

4th July Entertainment
On Monday July 4th a crowd of
happy people met at the home of Mr
and Mrs. I. L. Carter to enjoy the
day together.
At noon a bountiful dinner was
spread and enjoyed by all present.
In the afternoon the hostess assist
ed by Mrs. L. M. Crutchfield and
Mrs. Martha Ellenburg served ice
cream and cake after which a group
picture was made of all present.
