If you believe in prohibition

When the liquor heads and
vjp.skv organizations make so
njic-h fuss about prohibition not
lurking, that it is a fai*ce ete.,
argue tiie cause of prohibi

they were not suffering, they

“THE GOOD OF COUNTY

o county will ad;
" •rater growth than Walker, and
signs arc hanging out everywhere
in every section that the people
are waking up to the spirit of the
age, which is progress, and are
co-operating with each other to
bririg to pass individual prosper
ity ami county and Community
I progress.
When one looks back a few
years and sees Walker county
then and compares the conditions
then with the facts today, one is
encouraged to see the marvelous
changes and the devclopmnt that
have been made.
For the past three years empha
sis has been placed on school
building, and progress has been
made in this line of endeavor not
| dreamed possible. Hotter laws
'have been enacted to make it
I easier to construct and maintain
good schools and Walker has and
is rapidly t ikiii" advantage of
these liberal laws.
We were a long time learning
the wisdom of the old statement,
made by a wise old man, namely,
‘‘Guild a school, and a road will,
he made to it.” The backbone of
our progress is the school. Wher
ever there are good schools, well
equipped and efficiently-teacher
ed. there is a live community a
long all lines.
Progress in manufacture, pro
gress in church life, progress in
transportation facilities, roads,
business and professions arc
marked in this county ,and we
have foundations laid for our
greatest year of deveopment,. li
mited we go forward, so let us co
opratc for our community, town
and courtly growth this year, and
large results will attend our co
operative efforts when the cur

The old ship of Time twenty two
has made the anchorage safe, and
dropped tier anchor on the Eternal
shores never to he weighed again,
but w.e take passage on a new ship,
twenty three. Hie set sail with ev
ery part in perfect order from l.h<
Hand Divine. Our voyage on the
new ship will he fraught with
changes. We will change berths anu
storms will come and dangers wil
beset us, but if wnc hold on to "the
everlasting railing with a firm am,
steadfast faith, that ship on whic..
we arc sailing will land on the stead
fast shore. Our voyage will be in :
measure what, we make it, becaus<
our captain knows where all ttn
breakers are and if we obey Hi
commands wherever we, land wil
be the rigid, landing for us. See hov
many of our fellow travellers start
ed the last year and fell by the waj
side and didn’t reach the end bui
stopped on the way. So many of u
that are starting the new year wil
not reach the end. In view of this
certain fact we. ought to see, that
our passport is properly signed and
has the Divine approval.
LaFayette can boast of one quim
Xmas. I haven't beard of any dis
order, I suppose all enjoyed the
day. Some of my children and gram,
•hiklron came to see me just for th>
day for which 1 am thankful. I wa
not feeling very well but I enjoye
heir visit very much. So much so
this.
1 don’t believe there was ever o
much upheaval and unrest in the
world since the, morning stars san
together, as there is at this time
Every nation is in turmoil and i
ooks like they will come to blood
died, so it looks to the man on the
street. France is jealous of Germa
ny, and Germany is preparing for
war. You can read between the
lines and guess at the facts. Our
nation is safe now but will we be
pulled into the turmoil. I hope and
pray not. The Gospel of Christ is
the only remedy. Now, beloveu
Christian friends, let u s all put oui
shoulders to the wheel and push
together until we shall be known
far ami wide for our co-operation
in every enterprize that- will put
every idle man to work.
I see they are starting on the new
road over the historic Mize hill. I
don’t know but looks to one on the
street that its going to be some
crooked. I thought the idea was to
straighten the road. Maybe my eyes
are. crooked. Well we will have a
good road there no doubt.
Say, fellow neighbors, lets not
forget the school nor the church for
on these are the foundations of
everything that is worth while. I
was sorry I couldn’t be out at the
Templar service for I do believe in
the motto carried out by every true
Knight Templar, that in the sign of
the cross of Christ we conquer, first
self, and undue passions, then over
the sin- of the world. Let us live b>
the Golden Rule and we will conn
out allright. Amen,
J. M. COLEY.
