A very enjoyable service was held
at the M. E. Church South Sunday ev
ening. A special musical program was
rendered by the .Centenary .Orchestra
after which the,jrastor delivered an
inspiring sermon. The S. ,S. of this
church will motor to Crutchfield
.Springs Friday where they will hold
their annual picnic.
Pocahontas Chapter No. 1(55 held
their regular semi-monthly meeting
at the Masonic Hall Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Roy J. McFarland, W. M., pre
sided at the meeting. The degree won
was conferred on one candidate. Af
ter the meeting the Chapter entertain
ed with an ice cream social whicn
was well attended. A neat sum was
realized from the sale of the cream.
.Circle No. 3 of the M. E- Church
South met Wednesday afternoon, with
Mrs. M. M. Hicks. Mrs B C Hale pre
sided at the meeting and gave a pro
gram on “Saving America”. Reports
were made by the various committees
and an especially good report was
given by Mrs. ,G. 1\ Willbanks who is
chairman of the social service com
mittee. Circle No. 1 will meet Tues
day afternoon with Mrs. A. L. Ellis
on McFarland Avenue.
Mr. and Mrs. John Swafford and
Miss Pearl Storey of Atlanta and
George Purley, of Knoxville are the
guests this week of Mr. and Mrs. Doc
Johnson at their home on Chickamau
ga Avenue. On Monday evening, Mr.
and Mrs. Johnson complimented their
guests with a swimming party at
Lookout Lake.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Glieson, of Mi
nmi. Fla., are Ihr guests of their
grandson, A. H. GIL son at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Clnrk on
Ghicknmauga Avenue. This interest
ing couple were recently married at
Miami ,the bride being 72 while the
groom is 73.
Mrs. D. H. Ha.shberger and sons, of
Big Springs, Tenn are the guests of
the former’s parents Mr. and Mrs J.
R. McFurland.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bond and
children nnd Mr. nnd Mrs. Homer
Bond and children motored to Mary
ville and Knoxville this week for a
visit with relatives.
Mrs. John W. May is attending the
summer school at Powder Springs.
Mrs. T. G. Wyatt has returned from
a visit to relatives in Columbus.
Cecil Johnson who has been ill for
several days ha-; recovered and re
sumed his work with the Western
Union Telegraph Co.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Martin and
children of Selina, Texas have arrive !
for u visit with Mrs. Martin’s mother,
Mrs. J. H. Moreland at her home here.
They will visit relatives in different
parts of the county before returning
home.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hudgens left
Saturday for Philadelphia where they
will be the guests of their son, H. R.
Hudgens and Mrs. H. R. Hudgens for
several days.
Mi's. A. L. Fraley was hostess at a
children’s party at her home on Cedar
Hill Wednesday afternoon in honor
of the sixth birthday of her little
daughter, Edith. The home was pret
tily decorated with cut flowers and
a delightful afternoon was spent by
the sixteen little guests who were in
vited for the occasion. During the af
ternoon an ice course was served by
the hostess. The little honoree was
the recipient of a number of attract
ive giftk during the day.
Miss Willie Allgood delightfully en
tertained the Rainbow Class of the
Methodist S. S. at her home on Mc-
Farland Avenue Saturday evening.
Games and music were enjoyed on the
lawn of the home until a late hour
when an ice course was served by the
hostess.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lusk and Mrs.
Mollie Green of McMinnville are the
guests of their sister* Mrs. Russell at
her home on Richmond Heights.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thompson
spent the week-end with relatives at
Athens, Tenn.

Mrs. Beatrice Turner wjio recently
underwent a serious operation at a
Chattanooga hospital is critically ill
at her home on Spring Street.
Mrs. E. P. White and son, Otis were
the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs.
L. C. Clift ut Frienddale Farm.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Harwell were
called to Maryville, Tenn., Friday by
the serious illness of a relative.
W. P. Kelley has returned from Co
hutta, Ga., where he has been the
guest of his son, Oscar Kelley.
Mrs. Ray Crow and little sons, Ray
Jr., and Billy- returned Sunday from a
visit with Mr. and Mrs. Stone at
Shreveport, La. They were also the
guests of relatives-in Arkansas while
away.
Walter Lane and nephew, Milburn
Hoge have gone to Somerset, Ky., for
a visit with relatives.
Prof, and Mrs. F. H. Trotter of
Chattanooga have been the guests ot
Misses Annie and Jennie Johnson at
