Rossville, Ga. Sept. 16—One of the
most enjoyable affairs of the past
week was the banquet which was (fiv
es Friday evening by the members of
the L. U. B. A. class of the M. K.
Church South at the home of Miss
Agnes Robertson on Cedar Hill. The
lawn on which the banquet was held
was prettily decorated in autumn
flowers carrying out a color scheme
of lavender and yellow. Flowers of
the chosen flowers wete arranged in
vases and baskets on the tables which
were placed at intervals about th ;
lawn. Miss Robertson acted as toasc
master and toasts were given by Rev.
P. P. Martin, M. M. Hudgens, James
Carter ,Miss Louisa Ellis and others
About sixty four members and visit
ors were present and the evening wa s
very much enjoyed by all present.
Mrs. Doc Johnston entertained at
luncheon at her home on McFarland
Avenue Tuesday, complimenting Mrs.
J. H. Scales of Perry, Fla., who is
the charming guest of Mrs. D. H Hix
on. Covers were laid for the following
guests: Mesdames'Ray and Carl
Crow, Charles H. Bond, William Har
rison, D. H. Hixon and J. H. Scales.
The home was prettily decorated with
a profusion of gay colored autumn
flowers.
The Epworth League of the M. K.
Church South, delightfully entertain
ed with an “Every Buddies” social at
the church parlors Saturday evening,
i Invitations were sent out which ad-
I mit ted two to the Social and a large
crowd was present for the occasion.
Games and music were enjoyed and at
a late hour delicious refreshments
were served.
Mrs. John Westbrooks delightfully
entertained the Ladies Aid Society of
the M. E. Church of South Rossville,
at her home on McFarland Avenue
with a spend-the-day party Tuesday.
Rev. John King, of Boston, Mass., the
new pastor of the church was a spec
ially invited guest. Mrs. G. A. Fricks
; was also a special guest of the so
ciety. The day was spent in talking
I over the church affairs and planning
activities for the future. At the noon
i hour a tempting luncheon was served
by the hostess.
Prof, and Mrs. George Leinbach en
tertained at dinner Sunday at their
home near here. Covers were laid for
Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Carroll, Mr. and
Mrs. Lee Miller and Miss Fan Winter,
j The ice cream social which was
| held at the high school building under
j the auspices of tlhe P. T. A. was large
ly attended and a neat sum was real
ized which will be used for school
1 purposes. On Friday night under the
auspices of the P. T. A. a minstrel,
“Cuckoo Inn” will be given at the
high school auditorium. This promises
to l>e one of the most entertaining
features of the year and doubtless a
large crowd will be present.
Horton Ellis, the young son of
Squire and Mrs. A. L. Ellis left Sun
day for Gainesville, Ga., where he will
enter the Riverside Military Academy.
Prof. Thos L. Bryan, of Atlanta,
was the week-end guest of his sister,
.Mis. J. R. McFarland.
William, the youngest son of Mr.
and Mrs. Lee McCall who has been
! seriously ill is reported to be much
improved.
! Liberty Grove W. C. held a very in
teresting meeting at the Masonic Hall
! Monday evening. Mrs. Flora O’Neal,
; Guardian, presided at the meeting and

! order. After the degree work a social
hour was enjoyed.

ful motor trip to points in Ohio. While

; Ohio., where the terrible storm oc
curred a few months past.

Lee Fraley returned from Hickory,
N. C. the past week and after a few
days with his family here will go to
Macon, Ga., where he will be for sev
eral weeks.

ening where they gave a splendid pro
gram and organized a B. Y. P. U. at
the church.
Circle No. 2 of the M. E. Church
South entertained with an all-day
quilting at the church parlors Thurs
day. The beautiful quilt which had
been pieced by members of the circle
and which contained 218 names of the
Doc Johnson Bible Class embroidered
on the squares was completed during
the day. Lunch was spread at noon
and a delightful time enjoyed. On
Sunday morning the quilt was pre
sented to the pastor, Rev. P. P. Mar
tin. The presentation speech was made
by Mrs. W. H. Stanley, chairman of
the circle. A neat sum was realized
by the circle by the soliciting of
names for the quilt and this will be
added to the church fund. This beau
tiful church. Which is known as the
McFarland Memorial is almost free of
debt which shows the strong church
spirit which exists among its mem
bers.

a trip to Chicago.

visit to his brother, Robert Brown, at
Alcoe, Tenn.
Rev. J. E. O’Quinn left Monday for
