It seems that the Irwintop
Railroad Company has gotten
rich and retired. We understand,
however, that it is going to be
extended several miles toward
Dublin by other parties desiring
a fortune. This wouia open up
a good country, and would doubt
less be a good investment. The
old County is not exactly on a
boom, but is progressing stead
ily.
The rain stopped in time and
the country is safe. The hot
weather is making the cotton
hump.
Every year we hear of the
hundreds of sunstrokes and
deaths from heat in the northern
cities, while we are hot but hap
py down here. Georgia is indeed
the garden spot of the country.
Several newspapers are trying
to find out who put the germ in
Germany. What will the daffo
dil experts originate next?
Taft and Wilson are both en
gaged in writing speeches. We
think the former is preparing to
waste his fragrance on the des
sert air. Roosevelt is perhaps
worrying over the fact that he
has already spoken too much.
The Big Stick has taken the
count and he can’t come back.
A few of the colored bretheren
.and one white man recently met
i n Augusta for the purpose of
organizing in behalf of Roosevelt
which seems to be a pretty fair
example of the third party en
thusiasm.
The race for Governor in. our
own State is not creating a great
deal of interest, doubtless be
cause the outcome is already
generally conceded.

FOR SOLICITOR
The announcement of Hon. G.
H. Williams of Dublin for the
position of solicitor general of
the Dublin Circuit has created
’ wide interest in all of the coun
ties forming this new judicial
formation. Mr. Williams is well
; and favorably known in every
one of the four counties in the
' drcuit, but particularly so in
Johnson and Laurens where he
has practiced most. However
the news comes from Wilkinson
; and from Twiggs that he will
i have strong support in these
. counties where his reputation as
( a lawyer of ability and courage
has long been know*.
, Mr. Williams was born on a
farm down in the wiregrass of
> Emanuel. He was born and
grew up at a period when it
took boys of more than ordinary
determination to secure an edu
cation. Yet Mr. Williams did.
His parents were poor (and
they had lots of company) but
the boy had in him the determi-
1 nation to win and did. He is
now 42, has served his native
i county in the legislature, his
. jeople sending his to the house
in 1898 and 1899. His votes
’ there showed he was on the side
: of the people, and it is there
! that he has been ever since. Tie
■ame to Dublin in 1900 and at
once took active interest in the
oublic school system of the city.
, His interest was so keen and so
productive of good results that
he finally headed the school
! board for some years. He was
• solicitor of the city court of
. Dublin for a term and it is a
। known fact that he had the evil
doers on the run all the time.
Yet all the time he never perse
cuted any one high or low, but
■ he did prosecute with all of his
strength the evil doer whether
he was high or low degree. In
( the administration of the affairs
of this office he showed himself
to be a manly man.
Mr. Williams has demonstrat
ed the ability that should be re
quired in the handling of all
matters of public interest. He
has made a success of his own
affairs showing that he can suc
■ cessfully manage the affairs of
any office that may be intrusted
to him by the people.
Mr. Williams in his formal
announcement to the voters of
the circuit says that he “will
dispose of all frivolous cases
with as little time and expense
' as possible.”
This item of court expense
brought about by technical law
yers for defense and lawyers
for prosecutions who are with
out adequate ability, is one of
the greatest burdens the people
have to bear in the matter of
taxation. Voter go to your
county treasurer and ask him
where the most of your money
goes. It is a nine to one chance
that he will tell you that it goes
to court expenses, such as pris
oners’ keep, upkeep of jail, sher
iff, court officers and jurors.
Where would you have it go?
Certainly not so largely in the
direction it now goes, but in
good roads and better bridges.
If you elect Hon. G. H. Wil
liams to the Solicitor General’s
place we believe that you will
be doing yourself a good turn
and that you will do a great deal
towards helping to secure a bet
ter system of good roads.
To the Voters of the Dublin
Judicial Circuit:
I am a candidate for Solicitor
General of the Dublin Circuit
subject to the Democratic pri
mary. I will greatly appreciate
। your support.
Respectfully,
G. H. WILLIAMS.
Dublin, Ga.
For Representative
I respectfully announce my
candidacy for Representative,
subject to the Primary of August
21st. If elected I promise to
serve to the best of my ability.
I will appreciate your vote and
influence.
W. W. LEE.
Eor Representative
I respectfully announce myself
a candidate for re-election for
Representative of Wilkinson
County, subject to the Primary
to be held August 21st. I would
appreciate the support of all the
people.
JOHN T. DuPREE.
In Memory
Died July 13th, at 3:30
o’clock, Lola, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. R. A. Bell. Born
March 27, 1909. This short pe
riod embraces the life of a love
ly child, bright and winning, she
won the hearts of all who knew
her.
On June 11th she was acci
dentally scalded with a dipper
of hot water. Though seriously
sick, and at one time almost de
spaired of, she improved, until
it >vas thought to be only a mat
ter of a few weeks before she
was entirely recovered. Once
more she gladdened the house
by her loved presence, following
“mamma” about her household
duties.
The deadly poison form an
unhealed arm found lodgment
again in the weakened system.
The skill of physicians, the lov
ing care of parents and friends
was futile. She died in her
father’s arms, the last spoken
words being "mamma, papa,”
as the pure spirit took flight to
the brighter world beyond.
Sunday evening we carried
her to Bethel and laid her to
rest with kindred and loved
ones gone on before. So com
pletely had she woven her life
round the hearts of the family
and friends that her death leaves

JUDGE GEORGE HILLYER
ANNOUNCES FOR RAIL- \
ROAD COMMISSIONER
I am a candidate to succeed
myself in the office of Railroad
Commissioner, of the State of
Georgia, at the expiration of my
present term, subject to the
Democratic primary to be held
on Thursday, 21st of August,
1912.
If re-elected, I will try to do
my duty as I have done in the
past. Guided now by a large
experience in the very trying
and duties of this important
trust, I hope to do even more, if
possible, and better, for justice
and equal rights to all; and for
fidelity with diligence in the
service of the State, than I have
ever done before. It will be hard
for any new man to promjse as
much, or more than this.
GEORGE HILLYER.
