GEORGIA DEMOCRACY ON -
TRIAL.
From the Gainesville Eagle.
If the nomination of Wood
row Wilson means anything, it
means a new deal for Democra
cy. And yet Senator Bacon’s
friends are urging that we
should put Bacon back in the
Senate. It is already being said
in the north; Wilson is all right,
but the old-line politicians of the
party, especially in the south,
are reactionary and not in ac
cord with Wilson’s -policies.
They know Bacon’s record—
how he voted with the Republi
can stand-patters in the inter
ests of the Lumber Trust—how
he voted with the Lumber Trust
—how he voted with the same
crowd against free ore, and how
in his affiliations and tempera
ment, he is identified with the
capitalistic interests, and has
never had at heart the interests
of the common people.,
If we elect Bacon in August
it will be used all over the North
to show that Democracy is not
sincere, and that it is still in
the old ruts, and it will cause us
to lose the Progressive vote. You
cannot put new wine into old
bottles!
