. ILLITERACY MOVEMENT BEACHES WILKINSON
Those interested in the work of teaching illiterates sincerely
appreciate the timely and helpful send off given to the campaign
in Wilkinson county by Judge James B. Park and the Grand Jury
this week. Supt. Victor Davidson, in opening the campaign, has
written this circular letter:
TO THE TEACHERS AND TRUSTEES:
The Grand Jury, upon the suggestion of the Judge of the Su- ;
perior Court, at its special session last Monday recommended that i
evening classes be started by the Board of Education for the pur- ;
pose of teaching illiterates how to read and write.
£ This campaign has already been started in about 60 counties (
.of Georgia. We most certainly do not want Wilkinson county to ।
lag behind them all.' i
We are going to need a census of the illiterates of each school
community and are therefore asking the teachers to get a list of ,
these from the school children and forward same to this office by
the Ist Tuesday in December.
The Trustees are especially requested to assist the teachers in
this movement.

W. I. Dixon Has Fine Year
5 r)
Mr W- I. Dixon of Toomsboro was
in the city Tuesday and was asked
about this, his first, year’s experience
as a cotto farmer. He admitted that
he got pretfv shaky about the kness
at first and pulled out a good deal of
his hair until he began to see the way
clear. Now he has the wide smile
and the sparkling eye of the profiler—
not profiteer.
Besides a great big, heaithy crop
of everything else, he has recettly
marketed 65000 pounds of byf, of the
purebred, clean kind —his dipping
vat was the first in this county.
Os course, as usual, Mr. Dixon sold
enough pork, and little pigs to finance
the farm.

STUMP PULLING
Is attracting very favorable
attention from open eyed and
progressive farmers who real
ize that work on their farms
must be modernized if they
are to keep abreast of the
times. Tractors and the kind
of farm machinery that they
use are already thickly sprink
led over this part of the state,
and we might say that the
sprinkle is becoming a shower
this autumn. It is the sort of
a shower that is going to be
mighty helpful for next year’s
crops. Be among the first to
receive the rich benefits of the
better way of farming.
