Congress is having a big rucus
about prohibition. The thing to be
decided about is whether the people
are to be allowed to drink their dram
with permission of the law or go on,
as now, drinking without being allow
ed. While this fight goes merrily
along the folks don’t seem to care, as
it is only a matter of form to them
anyhow,
Talk has started of a paoject to cut
a canal through the great Dismal
swamp, Now that would be just the
place i o give all good pessimists a job.
It would put them in the proper
atmosphere, and also get them away
from among the optomists, and so
both could get along better. In the
wind-up it would bring the sour
faces back in a better humor, for
living in that swamp for the space of
several loans would prepare them to
be glad to get out in the sure enough
country again. It is said that the
Panama canal has changed our
weather, and if this new one will
change it back like it was we rre
ready.
And there is another fuss ..in con
gress, this time over the president’s
right to put some appointed workers
out of their jobs when he thinksit
would do good. Congress gives it-

He Makes Good Meal
Mr. W. M. Dixon makes some
good corn meal. Been noticing he
hauled it to town from his mill pretty
regularly, and so asked him how
much he brings to Irwinton per
month - - one hundred and twenty
bushels is the amount. Irwinton
isn’t the biggest citv in this part of
Georgia, so our folks must like his
meal extra well to use that much of it
every thirty days.

Mr W. T. Weaver was in town
Thursday afternoon-
self away this time. It wants some
done, and knowing that nothing
ever gets done in congress it hires a
lawyer. The idea of getting some
body else to do its talking is entirely
new so far as we remember.
Georgia forests are to be turned
into a vacationists prradise -- so the
saying goes now. And if we will let
our farms grow up in forests and
thus enlarge the paradise, why, then
we will all be living in a paradise,
and if this paradise business pays
well enough we can lav off cotton
and raise the price up to where it can
see expenses at least on a level.
Whoever it is that's always advis
ing the other fellow now says that we
got to economize on rubber because
England is fixing to put the price way
up. It’s alright to economize if it is
done on the right thing. We'd
suggest that the saving be made on
pencil tips. Leave olf the rubber
and when a fellow writes the wrong
word, let him move down a space and
write another, not go mess it up with
an eraser. We’ve lost no end of
time trying to figure out what an
erased word was want to know
what it was the fellow said and then
thought he’d better take back. It
smacks of secrecy, of holding out on
us, or a slip of the pen which would
have let us into what he really
thought while he was wiiting some
thing else. Let what is writ stay
writ and save rubber, too.

Di I you ever hear of a “sinking fund”? It goes by various
names, but that is a good one. It means a part of tne profits set
aside for a certain purpose.
When times are good or just normal, set aside every month a
part of your profits, letting it accumulate in your bank. It will
draw interest and some day, when business is very bad that sink
ing fund will come in handy.
