801 l Weevil Control
The Eboll weevil in varying
numbers is reported now work,
Rains have made control meas
ures difficult. In fields that are
squaring freely, itis too late to
get best results by mopping cot
ton with I.l'l mixture, (pound
calcium arsenate. gal, syrup,
gallon water), Not too late to
use this where squares are not
large enough for weevils to de
posit eggs. Mop just before the
squares form if weevils are pres.
ent, and not before.
One of the cheapest and best
treatments for cotton that is
fruiting is to locate the infested
parts of fields and dust those
spots with calcium arsenate. 3
applications should be made at
5 day intervals. The sooner this
is done the smaller the infested
areas will be. If no control
measures are used, the inf.sta
tion will spread to all parts of
the field after first weevils hatch
Examine closely. Weevils ecan
not be seen in cotton by merely
walking across the fiela. Look
in the buds and squares.

Born at the Right Time
There is such a thing as being
born at the right time.
Farm boys wno were. born at
the opening of the century have
spent their young manhood in a
period of declining prices and
decreasing opportunities. For
fifteen years farming and relat
ed Agricultural occupations have
had little to offer the youth of
our nation. As a-result rural
America has deteriorated and
the social and economic structure
of the country has collapsed.
But today, thanks to the wis
dom and courage of President
Roosevelt, we are entering upon
a new era in which rural Ameri
ca will be rehabilitated and farm
ing restored to its former pres
tige and attractiveness.
Young men who are now com
pleting their high school training
were born at the right time.
