Pardon Reports
Mr Editcr:
I have received a letter from a
citizen of Putnam cjunty stating that
it is reported in said county that I
either recommended the pardon o"
Sam Knowles or assented to it by my
silence.
I wish to say that said reports are
entirely untrue in every respect I
never, by thought, word, deed or
writing, reo immtnded to any perron
a pardon for this defendant, who was
convicted at the March term. 1927, of
Putnam Superior Court When the
motion for new trial was presented
to me I promptly overruled the mo
tion, and the Supreme Court of Geor
gia affirmed my decision, as will le
seen in the case of Kno vL sv. The
State, 163 Georgia Reports, page 182
lam writing this letter solely for
the reason of letting the people of
Putnam County know that I had noth
ing to do about the pardon of said
defendant, either directly or indirect
ly-
I do not wish to be mixed up with
other political contests in Georgia
during 1934. 1 frequently heard that
great statesman, Alexander H. Steph
ens, in his races for Congress in this
district, remark that he was "toting
his own skillet and letting the other
candidates do likewise.’’ As long ns
the people of the Ocmulgee Circuit
honor me with the jid^eshipof the
circuit they need have no fears that
I will do anything but what I consider
right and legal- As far as my official
acts are involved. No dog shall
harm them or me, tho a thousand
bark.”
Yours sincerly,
JAMES B. PARK.

FULL

NO LEGISLATION can entirely
take the place of “ old-fashioned 9t
standards of honesty. “Full measure
is more a matter of character than of
