Brief History of
ITie Bulletin
'Die Bulletin first began
publication in Irwinton in
1894 founded by John N.
I’odd, now living at Mcln
tyre, and the late George 11.
Carswell. Mr. Todd explains
that the paper was named for
the Cairo, 111., Bulletin, with
which a one-time Irwinton
editor, Clannahan, was then
associated.
The first shop was the
building which is now the
home of Joe D. Adkins.
Since that time there has
been an almost endless pro
cession of journalists who
have been in some way con- ;
nected with the paper. A
complete list is virtually im
possible due to the destruc
tion of some of the tiles in
the burning of the Court
House and “Penny Row,”
some years back.
The second owners were
the Rutland brothers, J. R.
awd ,who edited the
paper during the first dec
ade of the century.
From 1910 to 1920 the pa
per was owned and edited by
various people, among them
being the late Dr.J. S. Wood,
E. C. Momand. Lee and Sam
Hatfield and Fred Everett,
and sos a while again owned
by the late George Carswell
who in 1920 sold his interests
to the present owner, L. S. 1
Tigner, and the late Fleming
Bloodworth, the latter’s in
terest being held until recent
lv by his brothers, Julian and
Edwin Bloodworth.
