Our Own Desire
For Security
The attitude of most Ameri
cans toward the present strug
gle between Germany and
Russia shows more clearly
than ever before the Number
One Aim of our country in
the world conflict. The fact
that we are now lending a
sympathetic ear and actually
providing materials to the
Russians does not, as it first
appears, display an Inconsis
tency in our policy. Rather
does it sustain the consistency
of our chief resolution: that
of opposing Hitlerism at
every opportunity.
And we shall not be fooled
by arguments of ideologies.
The Russian state is based on
a foundation essentially the
same as the German. The
term “New Order” as ap
plied to either is misleading.
One man , rule of race
persecution, religious sup
pression, war, and bloody
aggression is the very “Old
est Order” known to man.
Its beginning dates beyond
recorded history and is the
same old enemy of a free
life regardless of its peculiar
brand of ISM. Why, then, do
we support the one and con
demn the other more heartily ?
The answer lies in the fact of
our own desire for security.
One of the beasts at large
in the world is strong; the
other is less dangerous to our
safety. The defeat of Russia
would render our greatest
enemy more dangerous to our
security.
—G. Harrold Carswell.
What Is Noble?
“What is noble?
To inherit wealth, estate and pride degree?
No. There must be some other merit,
Higher yet, than these for me.
“Something greater, far:
Must enter into life’s majestic span,
Fitted to create a center:
True nobility in man!”
