Subscription, SI,OO per year Educational Campaign Urged In Behalf Os Trees “Trees cannot vote, otherwise more attention would be paid to their welfare,” is the sage obser vation of the Bryson City (N.C.) Times, which in a recent issue went on to say: “Since trees cannot vote some one must speak for them. To voice their cause is to speak for the economic future of the country.” “We live under a government of political parties. The law maker has been put in his posi tion by the votes of a political party. He is therefore anxious to please those voters. He can do so only when he gets an ex pression of opinion from them.” “This is why a campaign of education must be carried on constantly in behalf of trees.”’ Forest fire prevention, forest conservation, proper forestry practices and tree planting are vital factors in the U. THE BULLETIN, Irwinton, Georgia School Boys Asked To Save Red-headed Peckerwood • School boys of this area are being asked to help save the red headed peckerwood from total extinction, it is stated in an ap peal sent here by the Southern States Forestfire Commission, Inc.. Birmingham, 5, Alabama. “rhe peckerwood, because of his red head, has been the target for millions of hunters, and un less shooting of this valuable wild bird is checked it will be come more extinct like the famed whistling swan. The pecker wood is one of the most valuable friends to timber growers, as he is like the sap sucker, feeds on tree borers and other harmful in sects”, the statement avers. “Futhermore, he is the most business-like and industrious of all the feathered friends For in stance, in digging a nest in an old tree, he is never late for his ‘shift’.’’ “He uses his head in building his home and digging out the enemies of trees, but the red-top on his crown gets the eye of careless shooters”, the statement concludes.
