going to give away a NEW 1946
“Fleetline’’ Chevrolet car. This
car will be on display at Penn
Chev Co. in Gordon after the Ist.
of Nov. Tickets to particapate in
the drawing are being sold by
I.egionaires and several business
houses over the county.
Proceeds from this campaign
are to beused to complete the
new American Legion Home at
Gordon. Post 101 has a 65 x 35 ft
brick building started and con
struction is going at a rapid pace
The new home is located on the
Milledgevilie highway about half
a mile from Gordon. Besides the
main auditorium there is to be a
long complete kitchen in the rear
a screened porch on one end, a
library or reading robom on the
other end, and in front a roomy
vestibule and two large rest
rooms,
The automobile isto be given
away in front of the new build
ing which is hoped to completed
by that time,
The American Legion has start
a drive for new members. At the
present they are meeting in the
Masonic Building in Gordon each
Ilst and 3rd Monday nights of
every month. -

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Williams of
Mclntyre announce the marriage
of their daughter, Jimmie to
Jack Ussery on October 13.
They are making their home at
present with her parents. ,

Macon last week was the adopt
ion of a proposed platform by the
Legion's state forestry commit
tee.
This platform called for Leg
ion backing of the State Forestry
Department’s bill for statewide
forest fire protection. This was
referred to the legislative com
mittee and endorsed

the state, espousement of a
stronger State Department of
Forestry and approval of a plan
to make the study of forestry a
required subject in the State’s

turned to her home safter a tonsilect
omy in a Milledgeville hospital.
Mr. Ollie Stevens is confined to
his bed after having an acute attack
of indigestion Saturday.
Mrs. B. Grimes has returned to
her home after undergoing an opera
tion last Wednesday 1n a Milledge-~
ville hospital,
Mrs. Bud Grimes is up and doing
nicely since her illness a few weeks
ago. She had pneumonia.
Little Joyee Roberts, daughter of
My, and Mrs. Julian Roberts, is suff
ering with a sore throat caused from
bad tonsils. Sing

seas his favorite hometown news
paper, just go to the circulation
department and enter his sub
scription, pcreviding he has a
permanent APO number,
A request from vour GI for the
paper, or any other second class
matter. such as books or other
publications, is no longer neces
sary, Major George F. Heinz,
Postal Officer of the Seventh
Army, stated today in explaining
modifications or restrictions that
have required a request from the
addressee for specific publica
tions, Book clubs may also accept
orders for overseas Army per
sonnel without requests from the
soldier addressee,
Major Heinz pointed out that
a permanent APO number con
tains no more than four digits,
whereas a temporary APO num
ber contains five. Second class
printed matter, under the new
ruling, may be sent only to per
manent APO numbers.
Uncle Do¢ Temples is confined to a
Milledgeville hospital,and has improv:
ed somewhat since going there. We
hope all ot these sick people a very,
very speedy recovery. And now let's
look at the hrighter side.
Miss Betty Dupree celebrated a
birthday anniversary this month. Betty
is our only red head in town.
Mr. Willie Wood sold his business
last week to a Mr. Hancock frem
Alabama. This store is located be
tween Helton and Hall’s stores.
Mrs. J. E, Holliman says that her
daughter, Carolyn, will seon join her
husband. They have at last found a
place to move, The Browders have
two children.
